album info by selecting album in album view and pressing ⌘I no longer opening info dialog

In previous versions of iTunes as well as Music app 1.0.3 it was possible not press command and click an album when in album view. That would select that single album. With that album selected pressing

command + I would open the info dialog for that album (Details, Artwork, Options, Sorting).


This no longer work in macOS 10.15.4 music app 1.0.4.104. With an album selected and pressing ⌘I does nothing.


So to get to the info dialog users first have to open the album, select all tracks and then press ⌘I. That is very cumbersome and unnecessarily complicated.


Is this a bug or another bad design decision by Apple? Would appreciate if it was possible to restore the behavior allowing users to effectively navigate their library.

From what I've read is that you're unable to use "Command + I" to bring up information on songs. I'd like to help and look more into this. As this article shows, the Command + I function still works for bring up song information: Keyboard shortcuts in Music on Mac


"Action Shortcut


Open the Info window for the selected song, Command-I".


Using that same article for shortcuts, I'd test other commands to see if any other work as intended.


I would suggest seeing if the same thing occurs in a test user account:

Hi Starr.C, thanks for trying to help me out.


I created a test user and the behavior was identical. Here are exact steps to reproduce:


  1. add at least one album to music app
  2. select album view
  3. ⌘ click album to select album (but not open the album details)
  4. with the album selected (system highlight color around album artwork will indicate that) press ⌘I


Currently

Nothing happens


Expected

Details for that album should show as music app was behaving in version 1.0.3.

Hello, AutoZuLaut.


Thanks for taking the time to try those steps. Where is your music downloaded from? Command + I should only work on ripped music that isn't DRM protected. If the music you have is from an Apple Music subscription this would explain why it won't work. If this is ripped music, try ripping a new CD, then see if Command + I will work.

Sent report with screencast and system diagnosis data via Feedback Assistant.

Contacted Apple Care: Senior Advisor was able to reproduce the problem on their mac.


Why is it so hard for Apple and/or Community Specialists to acknowledge that there is a bug in Apple Software? I hope they revise that odd policy to never acknowledge that fact. It does not make for a productive environment to solve such problems and move forward. I was amazed to find, that the 10.15.4 supplement update did not address this glitch.


The issue is not limited to the ⌘I shortcut for info, as ⌘Backspace is also affected, as is any other shortcut that interacts with the selected album in album view. All shortcuts are functional when album is clicked and view switches to album detail view which lists the tracks.


Apple really needs to tackle such bugs, as they keep piling up and Catalina is now at a state were it is not fun to use, but really frustrating. It actually prevents efficient work.
