my SSD response is very slow

Hi,

I installed SSD ( 1 TB Capacity with 350 GB free) on my iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013) 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Recently, I notice the SSD is not responding as fast as before. Opening a folder takes few seconds and notice several applications of mine such as DAW ( cubase) crashes in the middle of work.

What should I do to fix this please?

Any help would be appreciated.

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.14

[Running] com.macpaw.CleanMyMac4.Updater.plist (MacPaw Inc. - installed 2019-10-14)

You still have a CleanMyMac Launch Agent running even though it seems the rest of the app is not installed:

If you still have problems after removing this Launch Agent, then run DriveDX and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper. DriveDX also has the ability to run the SSD's internal self diagnostic if the SSD supports it (only the short test is available during the trial period unless accessed from the command line).

Check to see if the SSD has any firmware updates available. This can be hard to do as many SSD vendors do not report firmware revisions/updates since many rely on a Windows only app to check and perform SSD firmware updates.

TRIM is not enabled which could explain the issue during the write test. You can enable TRIM using the Terminal app:

sudo trimforce enable

It looks like this SSD is a decent one from the limited information I could discover on its technical specs.

You can uncheck "Put hard disk to sleep when possible" located in the Energy Saver System Preferences. Unchecking this option allows the SSD to retain power so it can perform critical maintenance and Garbage Collection whenever the SSD (and laptop) are not being used. This can be important if TRIM is not enabled.

In the mean time you can also Option Boot the computer by holding the Option key just after powering on the system and let the computer sit at the Apple boot picker menu for several hours which will allow the SSD to perform internal maintenance and Garbage Collection similar to what would occur when using TRIM.

Download and run Etrecheck. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Add Text button to include the report in your reply. How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report

IMPORTANT:

Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the app's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:

ALSO IMPORTANT:

Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine the root of the problem.
