iphone 11 ios 13.4 not appearing itunes

After updating to ios 13.4, my iPhone 11 doesn't show up in iTunes when I connect it. I've checked USB cables etc and all okay. My iPad running ios 13.3.1 shows up without any problems. (The iphone also shows up in the Photos app when I connect it.)

I'm running iTunes 12.8.2.3 in MacOS 10.13.6

I'd be grateful for any tips!

Thanks

Stephen

hi all,

i finally managed to sync my iphone 11pro on ios 13.4 to my early 2011 mbp 13 inch on high sierra.

Here is how it worked.

1- uninstall itunes from your mac book( of course make a backup of your library befor doing so)

then empty the trash. And restart and re install itunes. Itunes file available on apple website.

2- there is a security update on app store 2020-002 which i had to directly download it from apple website in order to install it and keep a copy Of the file for now. Install it and restart.

3- connect your iphone without opening itunes, it will ask you for a software update for itunes in order to be compatible with your phone. Go ahead and install this update as well.

and now you should see your phone showing on iTunes.

anyone not sure about the steps ask, and i will provide links to further explain what I've done and what is the procedure exactly.

cheers

I have a general question I wonder if anyone knows the answer to. When the computer prompts you to update your software, with that five minute download, is it installing the update on your phone or on your computer OS?

I just plugged my iPhone 11 Pro running IOS 13.4.1 into a DIFFERENT computer in my household running an older version of iTunes and it prompted me for the update. I installed it, and now my phone appears in that computer’s iTunes.

If that compatibility update made a change to the phone and not the computer I wonder if the phone will now appear on my main computer. It’s syncing 8,000 songs right now and I don’t want to interrupt to find out.

Wouldn’t it be a laugh if all you had to do is plug your phone into a different computer first, to get it to show up again in your normal iTunes?

Hi all

Sorry for the delay,

here is the link to download the security update as well as direct downloading iTunes in order to be able to re install it.

https://support.apple.com/en_GB/downloads/macos.

Also for the people who asked how to remove iTunes without loosing your library you should take these steps to not face the hassle of re importing your library and loosing any data or music ratings or so...

1- you should open finder , and from the top menu chose=> go => library=> music and DRAG THE (ITUNES FOLDER) to your desktop for instance.

2- use the free app named ( app cleaner and installer) to un install iTunes. Google it.

3- Reinstall re iTunes from the linked given above.

4- Move the ITUNES FORLDER back to where you first moved it ( address in step 1)

without opening iTunes connect your phone and it will ask for a software update for iTunes to connect to your phone.

5- install it and your phone should show in iTunes as it used to be and will work properly .

Let me know if you had any doubts in these steps.

Cheers

Genonooch, I had the same exactly situation. I pluged myiPhone 11 proMax to an older Mac, but... the same version of iTune like the newer iMac, and it did asked me to update the software. So I did. And my iPhone appeared in iTunes of the older Mac. After that I connected the iPhone to the newest iMac, and iPhone did not show up.

The conclusion: the software updates the iMac, not the iPhone.

Hope this helps.
