iphone 11 ios 13.4 not appearing itunes

After updating to ios 13.4, my iPhone 11 doesn't show up in iTunes when I connect it. I've checked USB cables etc and all okay. My iPad running ios 13.3.1 shows up without any problems. (The iphone also shows up in the Photos app when I connect it.)

I'm running iTunes 12.8.2.3 in MacOS 10.13.6

I'd be grateful for any tips!

Thanks

Stephen

hi all,

i finally managed to sync my iphone 11pro on ios 13.4 to my early 2011 mbp 13 inch on high sierra.

Here is how it worked.

1- uninstall itunes from your mac book( of course make a backup of your library befor doing so)

then empty the trash. And restart and re install itunes. Itunes file available on apple website.

2- there is a security update on app store 2020-002 which i had to directly download it from apple website in order to install it and keep a copy Of the file for now. Install it and restart.

3- connect your iphone without opening itunes, it will ask you for a software update for itunes in order to be compatible with your phone. Go ahead and install this update as well.

and now you should see your phone showing on iTunes.

anyone not sure about the steps ask, and i will provide links to further explain what I've done and what is the procedure exactly.

cheers

Thanks for the reply, Chris.

I've checked everything there. My iPhone does show up in the "device tree".

I've also tried syncing it to another Mac running an older OS, but I can't get the phone to "trust" the computer.

(I'd rather only install Catalina as a last resort – I use Logic Pro and there are unfortunately still quite a few incompatible plugins.)

Thanks again

I never ever update my OS without waiting period. That's why I am still on High Sierra, because of some reasons, that relates to video production plugins and apps. I never wait to update iOS as there was never a problem, I wish I would this time, as I have only 2 choices, either use a 3rd party application, very slow syncing, or update to Catalina, which forces me to get a new Mac.

I hope the bug will be fixed and I will be abl eto use my iTunes again.

Not yet. I'm still trying to get my head around what files I need to move to a separate location. I think iTunes Library.itl is the crucial one but I'm not sure if that resides where I think it does and whether the copy I operate every day is the one I'm looking at on my hard drive.

Wouldn't it be nice if planned obsolescence wasn't a thing?

what version of mac os are you using? if it is high sierra and your music library are in a different location just move the iTunes folder inside the library address i have given before and open iTunes, and check.

if you move the correct folder, and then open iTunes, it should show you no songs at all. so try moving the folder and re open iTunes to see if the music have been gone? if yes you are doing it correct. if music stayed there you should move another folder.

I am very appreciative of everyone's input -- especially Sasan's suggestions.

I was not able to follow the steps perfectly because after removing and re-installing iTunes, the security update returned an error message (I'm guessing because the update was already installed).

And then when I plugged my phone into the USB, it gave the Trust/Don't Trust dialogue. But once I got to that point, the phone is still not appearing in iTunes.

I'll check back on this page later to see how everyone is doing. Thanks, Sasan and everyone else!

Fred

It does show up in the device tree, iPhoto, and Image Capture.

Maddening.

I hope you all have better luck than I do. I'm going to take a break for my own sanity.

Thanks Sasan,

I'm in High Sierra. I guess the expression "music library" confuses me. Generally I take that to mean the catalogue file that connects iTunes to the music. That file is named "iTunes Library." It tells the iTunes folder where all the digital song files reside. I could try to get rid of it with "Clean my Mac" but don't want to lose any preferences or scripts, so I'm hoping the cleaning program doesn't wipe out any of the ancillary files I need.

I might try it tomorrow. The whole thing ****** me off because I didn't even want this stupid update; my phone just kept nagging me incessantly to accept it so, figuring it was no big deal, I did. Now I'm thinking it was a way to obsolete my trusty 2010 Mac Pro, which can't run Catalina (a version of OSX I already hate because of all this).

I'd use a third-party syncing software but my music is all lossless and I count on iTunes to downsample the files to a more manageable size for storage on the phone.

I hope this gets fixed.

Hi Sasan,

When you say, "warn you about the new iTunes software update," do you mean this message (see screenshot)?

If so, that's the part of the process that is the problem; because when I try to do that update, I get this error message:

Any suggestions about that?

Let me repeat, your help in all of this has been much appreciated. I'll keep trying these fixes, but so far no luck.

Thanks again!

Fred
