Hi,
Recently my wide angle camera function stopped working and when I open the camera app it automatically pops into 2x and only allows me to zoom out to 1x but not. .5(screen shots below), all options work on video. I’ve updated to latest iOS, restarted phone, closed and reopened camera still know luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I use the wide angle for work all the time.

I had this issue. No amount of reset/restoring fixed it. I chatted with apple tech support online. They ran a remote diagnostic. They confirmed there was something wrong. They scheduled an appointment for me at my local Best Buy. The tech there ran the same diagnostic test again... "CAMERA ISSUE REAR CAMERA WIDE ANGLE LENS NOT FUNCTIONING, IS NOT DETECTED IN MRI." The fix was a rear camera replacement, which Best Buy had in stock. It took about 45 minutes. It cost $109. I'm disappointed the camera stopped working after less than 2 years of gentle ownership. However, I am grateful that I did not have to mail the phone in. If reset/restore does not work for you, you will need to get your rear camera replaced. There is no other fix if your camera is not detected. Good luck!
have a technician check the hardware and make sure the connections of the camera are not loose or anything.
the issue is either software or hardware.
if updating to IOS 15 or fixing the camera hardware didn't help at all then we can say that the whole phone is faulty. you can take it to Apple and have their certified technician to check it. If the Apple technician was able to fix it, then my friend you got ripped off by the local technician you initially consulted, or the Apple tech replaced the faulty component on your phone. Depends on how you're going to look at it.
I went into Best Buy and they ran a diagnostic and APPARENTLY my camera sensors are messed up. So now I have to wait till Saturday to go to Apple to get a new phone
Mine has been resolved. Diagnostics revealed an issue with the sensor. Camera was replaced.
I have had the same problem , did a network settings reset , the problem dissapeard and then after 2 days again , ultrawide and telephoto camera stop working , i try network settings reset once more , this time won't work , the problem still there . I'll try Procamera app to see if problem is software or hardware .
I'm glad I saw this page, I contacted the chat support and they ran diagnostics, after which they claimed there is a hardware issue with detecting the camera and I had visit a service centre. In this pandemic, I preferred to be indoors so never went to the service centre.
After seeing a few answers posted here regarding alternative apps, I dowloaded a few to see the difference in use. Camera app was good because I could adjust the zoom between 0.5x and 1x, but the app is a bit messed up. In the camera app, I was able to access the 0.5x lens when in Time-lapse, SLO-MO, and PANO modes and was not able to access the lens in photo, video and portrait modes. I wonder what the problem with Camera app is, and I hope there is a detailed answer somewhere.
Apple Support, need a proper solution.
First try updating to the latest software. If you still see the message you should just visit the nearest Apple service centre, they would help you out. You should be covered under the 1-year warranty.

I resorted to Halide Camera app. Works fine but of course I want the native Camera app to work, dear Apple.
Exactly, I am now using Pro Camera to handle wide angle and portrait. It’s frustrating why apple’s native app is broken, this is really terrible. Might switch to Android now.
Yeah the solution is to replace the phone in an apple store. Most likely a hardware / camera failure. Water damage also causes the camera to fail. Just to keep in mind.
I called support level 2. Their solution was horrible. Factory wipe the phone. Then don’t restore from backup and just sign-in with iCloud account. Manually add back every app and lose all messages. Was only mostly sure this would work. Other offer pay $99 for a new phone? The phone is like 80 days old!!
Same EXACT problem as the original post.... did a factory reset...NOTHING.... bought the stupid Pro Camera app.... got the wide angle to work, but the native camera app? NOTHING!
What the **** Apple. Phone was working PERFECTLY fine up (from March) until today.... phone starts having issues CONVENIENTLY when I refuse to do an update the last few days. Installed your stupid update and NOTHING! Camera app still doesn't work.
Expensive phone which I upgraded mostly because of the camera lens and now I can't use them. Replace my phone? Are your stores even open? Great.
i have the same exact problem, did a network reset, and it didn’t work. did a factory reset, didn’t work. downloaded the FOCOS app, and in THAT app ultra wide works, in the apple camera doesn’t work. i’m SURE that this problem is SOFTWARE and not hardware bcause in other apps ultra wide works, in APPLE camera doesnt. The thing that i want to understand is HOW do i resolve this problem bcause i bought this phone FOR the good cameras and after 8 months of usage the ULTRA WIDE camera stopped working. help us apple
I have the same bug.... It seems like a software isue because the wideangle still work in third party app like Lightroom. Cna you help?
I believe that is because it is a software bug and so when you used a backup to restore from you got the same bug
