iPhone 11 Pro wide angle stopped working

Hi,

Recently my wide angle camera function stopped working and when I open the camera app it automatically pops into 2x and only allows me to zoom out to 1x but not. .5(screen shots below), all options work on video. I’ve updated to latest iOS, restarted phone, closed and reopened camera still know luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I use the wide angle for work all the time.

Cheers Craig

I also had this issue. I tried to:

  1. update IOS. to the latest
  2. reset to factory setting
  3. I even tried using 3rd party apps to see if the wide angle will work and suspect a phone software issue

but these did not help.

I have a friend who knows how to open and fix iphone hardware. we found out that the flex cable of the wide angle is not securely attached. he disconnected and reconnected the flex cable and that fixed the issue.

I have the same problem! Worked perfect until Febru. Wide angle doesn’t work, portrait doesn’t work (but portrait does work on the front camera) and also very annoying that when I open the camera app it always starts on 2x. Seeing so many people here having this issue it’s maddening. This is a $1200 phone and apple does not want to even acknowledge it so that they can pretend the phone has no issues. It’s ridiculous.

I FINALLY found the problem, and now my phone is working.

I think it's definitely because of iCloud sync.

When I failed to backup my phone settings to iCloud, wide angle button disappeared.

(I have plenty of backup storage, but 'you don't have enough space to backup' pop-up appeard. weird.)

When I delete my iCloud backup history and backup my data(success!) and camera wide angle button appeared.

(You need to restart your phone after backup complete)

I don't know why it has link with iCloud, but with some struggle, I think it's reason of problem.

I'm sure that

It's not about hardware problem, it's software problem.

I hope this will be a proper solution for others.

Here’s where I’m at with this ghastly issue. I finally “took care” of it this weekend after doing a “Erase all Settings” and that not working. Additionally, some of my photo modes were gone by now. I don’t remember this being an issue before but there were only four - if I remember right, I think portrait mode and slow-motion were gone.

I called Apple and ran a diagnostics with them. They could “see” that there was an issue with the camera and that it “wasn’t my doing.” I have Apple Care so they sent me a new phone. I have been following this thread for several months and I don’t remember reading anyone on this forum providing the result of their diagnostics with Apple, so I was hopeful. Not too hopeful though.

I did a quick set up without signing in to my Apple ID just to test the camera. All settings and features were present on the camera. I did a factory re-set and did a fast transfer with my current phone. Wide angle lens again, was just gone. Trying literally anything I could before I had to start over like others have said, I downloaded the “ProCamera” app at the advice of another user on here. It’s a one time purchase of $8.99. Immediately hated it because there are ads within it, but whatever.

I went to the native app and the wide angle lens was still not restored. So I was thought, “let’s do a shut down and turn on and hope for the best.” Held my breath and re-started it, and the wide angle lens is now restored. To me the lens seems fuzzy, but I think it’s just my eyes and continuing to be skeptical. The photos seem to turn out okay.

No idea what is going on but this seems pretty shady to me. Why should I have to pay a third party app to get a feature restored on the native camera app that I’ve already paid $1300 or whatever for? Once again, fix it, Apple. :(

Same issue with my stepdad’s iPhone 11 Pro Max (Gold). My green same phone doesn’t have the problem.

It started happening middle of February. Out of nowhere. His Camera app just kept crashing so he asked me to check it out. After restarting, I found that only one camera (2x - 52mm works). The other two don’t.

The interface also changed to that one on the screenshots you posted.

Brought it to Apple store. They had no idea. I restored to factory settings as new. Still the same problem. So I thought it was hardware.

back then (February or March), haven’t seen any post about it yet.

I thought he was alone.

WTH, Apple!!!

So I had the very same problem. I was getting my 11 Pro replaced for a different reason so I was hoping my new one wouldn’t have that problem. I set it up, same problem. So before I sent my old one back, I set it up as a new phone without the Apple ID. Still didn’t work. So I called Apple technical support and she connected via screen share and saw what I was having trouble with. My new phone didn’t even have the video or slow-mo option in the camera. She said to go into Settings>General>reset>reset network settings. The phone turned off, and turned back on by itself. I opened it up, opened the camera, and everything worked like new. Made no sense but it works!! Hope this helps

Follow instruction on u/Timi1229:

Settings>General>reset>reset network settings

if that doesn’t work, call apple support and have them run a diagnostic. My other equipment has a camera sensor fail (hardware issue) and apple sent me a replacement unit under the warranty. The warranty equipment also had the wide eye lens issue that I was able to fix using the reset network settings.

hope you get it resolved!! Good luck

Guys I think that this isnt a hardware problem bcause:

When I am in video mode, 0.5 works, and if I take a video, I can take photos too with the photo button on the right of the video button.

I have tried all of these things (but I didn’t try pro camera) but they didn’t work.

I am trying now to install iOS 14 Public Beta 3 so the camera app will reinstall (I think?)
