Area code 306 in recent calls says United States

I live in the province of Saskatchewan in Canada and my area code is 306. My iPhone lists recent 306 calls both incoming and outgoing as ‘United States’ under the number. Why or how has this occurred and how do I fix it, as area code 306 is actually in Canada.

Thanks. This occurs with local numbers such as Costco. Lots of fake calls are received but these are valid numbers. Occurs both for incoming and outgoing calls being displayed incorrectly. It seems to be a problem with iOS 13.4 as that is the only variable which has changed recently. Apple support said to tell my carrier that two settings are missing on my phone: International Calling and Dial Assist. My carrier then said they weren’t aware of such a thing as nothing changed on their end. They also said a few others have reported the same problem to them. It seems that a bug fix is needed in a future release of iOS.

This is definitely NOT a issue with the provider as the issue appears to only happen with iPhones. Carriers send the same information to all devices regardless of device type. Also the error is also showing up on iPhones on the Rogers network which is independent from the SaskTel Network.

Also the issue did not not appear until after an IOS update. During my discussions with Apple they acknowledged the problem was an IOS issue and made no attempt to pass the buck off to the provider.

Before I retired I spent over thirty years working for SaskTel so have a basic idea of the way call setup information is passed between the network and devices.

As per my previous post the error will hopefully be addressed in what ever IOS versions is presently with the programmers.

Brgibson Said:

"I filled out the bug report. I could not paste a screen print into it. If I were to send one to ‘report phishing’ how would they know what to do with it? This is not a phishing issue."

How to Send the Images:

It might be phishing or there may be nothing "Phishing About it" so to speak.

But, you need to eMail the screenshot(s) to Apple. Unfortunately, you cannot add it to the Feedback Site. Their engineers will receive the image(s) and will know what exactly is occurring from their end (iPhone's iOS)

So, just send it off it off, adding it as an attachment. Send it to: reportphishing@apple.com

If you want, you can send more than one screenshot. I would make a description of it as well.

As mentioned above by lobsterghost1: Also, contact your Cellular Carrier, on top of Apple.

Just thought I would add to this to help non technical folks understand IOS updates.

Yes IOS 13.5 has been released and yes the 306 bug is still there.

To understand why you need to understand the “life cycle” of updates.

It takes many man hours of work for developers, programmers, testers and deployment engineers to rollout updates. The release of IOS 13.5 would have taken weeks. It is highly likely version 13.6 is in the testing phase while 13.7 is in the development/ programming phase.

It is unlikely the 306/639 area code error would be caught in testing since it is an obscure error and not been caught previously. To be honest even if was caught it’s unlikely that version would be sent back to be reworked.

Hopefully this bug will get squashed in what ever version is in the programming phase now. Hopefully version 5.7..

Hope this all makes sense. I come from an IT background within SaskTel (now retired so this not an official SaskTel response)

Apple isn't here. This is a user to user only forum. Telling us to fix anything won't get you what you want.

What your cellular provider told you makes no sense. Cellular providers are notorious for passing the blame. Call services are not from Apple. Every call you get comes from your cellular providers network. Apple does NOT control cell towers or area codes in any way. But you are more than welcome to provide feedback to Apple via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple
