Audio sound when recording a video.

I had the same problem before but when I turned off the stereo, it was okay again. However, I had experienced the same thing again despite keeping the stereo off. So I did all the troubleshooting but still it didn’t work. I put my phone on silent mode and recorded a video, and it was okay. Then, tried it in ringer, and the volume of the video is low again. Is anyone experiencing the same thing? Tried it several times. Recorded video on silent mode it okay, but if on ringer, the sound of the recorded video is inaudible.

This is just crazy that apple hasn’t fixed this yet. I have been using the workaround of keeping the sound on silent and it works. However I have missed many calls and messages doing this. It’s not a long term fix.

I tried your workaround but unfortunately no change for me. It is still the same. Audio is recorded at low volume for the first 8 ~ 10 seconds then to normal volume. All other - voice recording app, facetime, and other video recording app - works fine. Only when recorded with the Apple’s camera app... this happens.

Yes same issue with the beginning few seconds of low sound when recording video however turning the phone on silent works to fix the issue for me. sorry it doesn’t work for everyone. This is not acceptable from Apple. They have known of this issue for at least two iOS system changes.

I'm having the same issue with iPhone 11 when my stereo recording sound is ON. I contacted Apple this morning and they're working on it but here's the workaround for now:

Turn OFF your sound on the phone! Like the little switch above the volume, just record videos with that off and the sound will be fine in the videos. At least it worked for me...

Same problem iPhone 11Pro and my colleague iPhone XR. Work around Turn of Stereo in Camera settings and for me also helped to remove phone from the protection case. Same fix for 11Pro and XR. No case, No 10 seconds low sound level problem.

I got a new iPhone in exchange from apple store. It had iOS 13.6 and there was no sound related issue.

After installing iOS 14.4.1, front camera is not recording properly. Sound is low for a few seconds after that record very well.

When I recorded a video through Clips app then no such problem occurred. But don’t know that app records stereo or mono sounds.

It is definitely an issue with iOS 14.x.x.

It's some sort of problem with IOS, but if you turn your sound off (the little switch above the sound buttons on the side), the video volume should be normal! That's my workaround until there's a solution.

i know the answer I had the same problem I even got a new replacement iPhone and I just solved the problem. Go to setting then go to camera then go to RECORD STEREO SOUND turn it off. It should be grey and your sound will work find.

I have been having this issue since I purchased my iPhone SE, sometime last spring/early summer. I have tried disabling the stereo sound which helped in videos only: I still have the issue when recording audio messages via iMessage. This phone has been through many resets and restores and updated to no avail.

Absolutely. I got an email from apple support telling me to contact them about it and honestly I’m sick of having to do that. Update- still having the issue with recorded videos, voice memos, and the iMessage audio message feature. Bummer.

It seems that what worked the most was turning off stereo setting:

There is a lengthy discussion of the number of microphones that the iPhone has and how they can interfere with each other when recording, how a tripod could be covering one of the mikes, and how in some cases the glass anti scratch cover could also interfere with sound.

I had almost the same problem. When I played a recorded video from my iPhone X. The video was a bit muted at start and then the sound goes up and later down again especially when music was playing in bacground. I used sewing needle to clean the microphone (the camera one) and it worked.

Viola ! Finally the new iOS update has fixed the issue. iOS 14.5.1 has fixed this issue for me.

yesterday the problem continued even on “live” photos and video however I updated the iOS today and it’s finally fixed!

I had the exact same issue for a few days and it was frustrating. THANKFULLY it's now sorted and it was sorted by a software update. Once it was finished there was no thump at the start of my recordings and the audio levels didn't change midway.
