Safari Reload Error

I had been using Safari 13.1 on my MacBook Pro running 10.13.6 High Sierra (I need to stay with that OS for lots of compatibility reasons) for a long time with no significant issues. About a week ago when I go to websites I have visited for years with no issue, the page will try to reload then give an error message "A problem repeatedly occurred...." see attached example screen shot below. There are no issues like this on Firefox or Chrome visiting the same websites or pages. From my searches, I tried to dump cache, history, etc., but nothing I have seen posted on the internet seems to work. HELP!!!

Howdy RickApple123,

Thanks for taking the time to reach out in Apple Support Communities. I understand you're unable to access websites, due to an error message of, "Reload Webpage" in Safari.

Accessing your favorite websites is an important aspect in using your Mac. I'll be happy to help.

You've done an excellent job with the steps that were performed. To troubleshoot this behavior further, I recommend to reset the NVRAM (nonvolatile random-access memory). This will reset the settings stored on your Mac. Here's an article with additional details and the proper steps to take: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

If that doesn't help, I suggest to restart your Mac in safe mode. This helps to perform a system check of your startup disk, deletes some system caches and more. Here's how to perform this step: How to use safe mode on your Mac After safe mode is done, please restart your Mac as normal and see if you continue to experience the same behavior: Log out, sleep, restart, or shut down your Mac

Please let me know, if that helps.

Kind regards.

First, and Foremost:

  • Broadband Traffic is High: First off, and I'm sure you've read about this on these forums, but with this Coronavirus Pandemic going around, lots are at home working out of their house, and kids are attending class and are playing games online.  Also, many out there who use you local ISP services (Broadband), may be visiting that same domain (weather.com). Who knows? Remember: There is only so much that Broadband can handle.

Also...

  • Try Restarting your Modem/Router: Perhaps connections need to be reestablished? If Utility Work is performed down the street, often enough, the Internet usage may be down for a few, and then you would have no choice by to restart your modem/router once it is up and running.
  1. Power Off: the modem/router
  2. Wait: 30 Seconds
  3. Power: it back up

  • Boot into Safe Mode: See if this still occurs when booted into Safe Mode. If so, then boot into Safe Mode (Hold Down: Shift key upon boot). Caches and all other unnecessary items are put aside when logging it. So, see if this still occurs.

  • Try a Different Web Browser: See if using a different Web Browser would make all the difference. You'd find these in the App Store: Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

  • Create a New Administrator(Go to: System Preferences > Users & Groups).,Sign into it and see if this still occurs. If not, then it is something configured in your current user. So, transfer all your files to the new user, rid of this current user, and use the new user from then on. You should be set to go.

Hi Rick,

This same problem exists with me, and it seems there are a lot of users who are recently facing this problem (check https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251237245). It happened to me since I updated safari (to 13.0.5, now it is 13.1). Disabling javascript can load the websites but a lot of websites require javascript to run. Hope Apple does something about it soon.

I've had this problem for a long time. As others have noted, turning of javascript stops it, but doing so makes many site unable to load. Now I keep Chrome running alongside Safari to guarantee that something can open the pages I want to go to. Similarly, my Apple TV is so slow to load (and countless others report this) that it's unusable, so I keep my Amazon Fire Stick running for the same reason I use Chrome. I've been a Mac guy since 1984, and I find it tragic that the most efficient way to operate these days is to use non-Mac stuff. Nothing seems to get fixed in the Mac world now.

If the issue continues in safe mode

If the issue continues while in safe mode, or your Mac restarts several times and then shuts down while starting up in safe mode, you should reinstall macOS and make sure that your Apple software and third-party apps are up to date.

1.Backup the computer

2.Reinstall macOS from Recovery.

   Command (⌘)-R

Reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac (recommended).
