Apple Watch Series 2 Update to 6.2 issues. iPhone X on version 13.4.1

I have followed all the steps posted on Apple site and YouTube to get this update to take. Apple watch is charged to 100% and connected to charger. iPhone is also charged to 100%, connected to charger and connected to Wi-Fi . I have rebooted both devices a few times. I have removed the update download on the iPhone. (iPhone - Watch app > General > Usage > Software Update >) Deleted that file there. Then went to (iPhone - Aatch app > General > Software Update) It sees update 6.2 and download it again. But fails to install. Get message "Unable to Install Update - An Error occurred installing the latest version of watchOS on your Apple Watch." from my iPhone I then went into (iPhone - Watch app > General > Diagnostic Logs) and deleted all the old logs. I have even tried installing the new update from the watch itself (Settings > General > Software Update) and get the exact same message. I also have seen a error saying it cannot talk to the watch, but I can see the watch in my Bluetooth device on the iPhone and it is connected. I can change the face style on the Watch and the watch get the new face instantly. I have reset the watch and tried to set it up as a new device as well as restore from backup. Still fails to take this new update.

So then I went into the Watch itself and turned off the Wi-Fi (Settings > Wi-Fi > OFF)s and all of a sudden my Watch finally updated.

I can’t get mine to update. I’ve let it run all night. Both fully charged, both plugged into charger. Phone on WiFi. Watch says continue set up on phone. Phone won’t let me do anything until update, can’t access settings or anything other than turn it off. Paired to phone multiple times- no problem. Phone says must be connected to WiFi. It is. Stuck in an endless circle! Help!

I have Apple Watch Series 2 (version 6.1.2), my iPhone is 6sPlus (version 13.4.1). I am having issue when upgrading WatchOS 6.2 during verification phase. Error: An error occurred installing the latest version of watchOS on your Apple Watch.

Unfortunately, I cannot turn off Wrist Detection on the watch so that I could not install the upgrade package from the watch itself. Also, to turn off WIFI on watch did not help neither.

Need help please. Thank you..

Sweet thanks for this info. I really hope this post get the attention of Apple watch developers and they can dig into this and see if this is a bug of some kind. If it is then hopefully the Apple watch developers will fix it in a future build. I personally do not fault the Apple testing team or the Apple watch developers on this at all. Its not my goal to get them pointing finger at each others. Its about us, the ones who buy there product having a voice. Saying, this is an issue some of us are experiencing. These are the extra steps we are having to do to get the watch update to take. So Apple just fix it please!

From my understanding the watch need to be on the charger to install update. Not sure why you would need to turn off Wrist Detection 1st. But a though would be to have the watch on but a little loose, let the watch notice your wrist 1st then slip the charger under the watch and have it on your wrist while you try the update. Maybe try to reset the watch to default setting 1st.

If the Apple Watch update is stuck try to delete the already downloaded update and log files 1st and download a fresh watchOS update.

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap General > Usage > Software Update, then delete the update file.
  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap General > Usage > Diagnostic Logs, then delete all the log files
  3. After you delete those file, try to download and install the watchOS update again.

I’ve been having the same frustration. At one point, I gave up and reset the watch to factory settings, and now it won’t let me pair the watch to my phone. Either it says it is connecting to the watch and hangs, or I get an error that it is unable to verify update because I’m not connected to the internet (although I am). Needless to say, I can’t turn off the WiFi on the watch, delete the update file, or restore it to a backup file. Help!

Same problem here. Now my AW is factory reseted, and can’t connect to my ip xs. I tried with my wifes old SE, witch has 13.4 ios and it was able to pair it. No when its paired with that, it shows that i should update AW to 5.3.6. When i tried to pair it with my xs, it tried to update to 6.2.1

This is so frustrating and i’m so fed up with Apples bs. Considering to change all my and my familys to Android. Been on apple for 11 years now, but this is too much. I’m having a 500€ watch i can’t use. It is all because Apple doesn’t seem to care about its customers at all.

If your watch will pair to your wife’s phone. Can you updated the watch all the way from that device? Just to get the watch it self past the update issue. You would want to fully unlink her phone from the watch once your done. Then you could just focus on the 2nd issue the watch not pairing to your phone.... Sometimes the phone has issue with that and a simple reset of the phone may help. There is two ways you can reset the phone. 1 will put your phone back to factory default the 2nd will keep your data. If it was me I would back my phone up to iCloud before doing any reset. Then I would reset phone but keep my data and then test to see if I could connect my watch it not I would factory reset my phone and try that.

Here is a web site to help reset the phone and keep data.
