iOS 13.4.1 battery drain

I have updated my iPad mini 2019 two days ago and battery is practically worst ever. By browsing only drops 1% per minute. Anyone experiencing same problem?

After putting in a few hours of research trying to figure out this issue someone recommended checking battery usage of apps and sure enough Siri was running 100%..!..It was suggested to completely turn off Siri on the device and also on iCloud, which I did and it completely fixed the issue immediately.

I was even having Issues with it charging quickly and those issues are also gone.

I believe that the update definitely effected how Siri runs in the background and I suggest you try the same to see if it works for you.

I had the same issue after update to 13.4.1 on my iPhone 8. Massive battery drain. What I realised was, that the drain also happened during idle times (no application was seen using battery during specific times). I turned off bluetooth in the settings (not the quick access function in the Notification Center). This solved the problem for me. I found this in another thread reported by a user https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251259807

For me it is clearly a bug in 13.4.1.

Unfortunately, turning off bluetooth on my iPhone seems to affect the HomeKit locations based rules. Most of the times my HomePod does apply the rules correctly, but sometimes it thinks I'm not at home and doesn't trigger the rules, or triggers rules which are defined when I'm not at home...

My iPad Air 2 doesn't show this behaviour.

Hope this helps as a workaround.

I was able to resolve my battery drain on iPhone7. iOS 13.4.1. I noticed my Mail App was not updating and was stuck in a constant loop unless I cleared it from memory or disconnect from WiFi/cellular. What fixed my problem was deleting the Mail App and reinstalling it. Adding all my mail accounts and tested and my battery doesn’t drain 5% per minute. Back to normal finally.

I have had serious battery drain on iPhone X and iPad 10.5. On both I did as suggested by one post, turned off Bluetooth in SETTINGS (NOT Control panel.) This has substantially slowed drain, now more like it was prior to 13.4.1. Obviously not a happy fix but until Apple addresses, good workaround for me. Battery usage report doesn’t really tell you what is going on, there’s background power consumption that is related to Bluetooth. BTW my configuration was unchanged moving to this release so those who suggest all the normal power reduction tips are wasting your time. There may be other things needing to be fixed but for me main culprit = Bluetooth.

When you say "reset" do you mean clean, no added apps? That's how I fixed my phone. I had accumulated so many apps, most of which I never used. Even though the battery-use percentages were blaming Siri and Calendar and a lot of ridiculous stuff (blaming Siri when completely turned off) -- once I reset and did NOT restore from a backup, I was good. Then I added the apps I really need, one at a time, slowly and stopped when I had what I needed -- not even two pages of app icons where I'd had seven before. And the phone is now working perfectly, with robust battery life. I'll probably never know what app or combination of apps was interacting badly with the 13.4.1 update, but this worked for me and life is back to normal.

There is no fix/solution for this, currently.

This is a iOS/iPadOS issue that Apple needs to solve.

That's the problem.

Try going into the Settings app and making sure Bluetooth is toggled OFF in the main Bluetooth settings when NOT using Bluetooth devices.

Bluetooth has been mentioned here before as the issue causing the battery drain.

In Settings, General, either toggle OFF Background App Refresh for any apps that maybe getting updated through the Internet in the background and toggle OFF Background app Refresh for any apps that you feel do not need and data refreshing in the background..

OR

Simply toggle OFF Background App Refresh, GLOBALLY, for the entire iPad.

Someone else, also suggested doing a complete backup of your iPad's data, to iCloud or iTunes on a full computer.

Then setup your iPad as new and slowly only add back apps one, two, three at a time and test the iPad out the iPad for an hour, or so, each time to see how the battery performs for a short time until the battery drain starts re-occuring.

Resolution/work around...please note a previous post. Simply turn off Siri in your phone settings (scroll down to the app). This fixed the massive battery drain. I suggest leaving Siri off until Apple acknowledges this serious bug and fixes it. Call me crazy but there seems to be a continued cycle of poor battery life each time they release a new iPhone.

There are bugs with Siri.

Someone in this post found that.

Siri is the bug.

So, if you do not use Siri all that much, just disable all Siri functions, for now.

Also send feedback to Apple

What exactly do you expect from a user community? An actual bug fix?

Everyone knows this is a bug and some of us have sent a feedback. But until Apple rolls out an update with the required fixes, one has to live with workarounds.

Turning OFF Bluetooth from Settings helped with the battery drain problem for a few users, including myself. My battery graph is consistently flat during sleep, and the only thing I do is turn OFF Bluetooth from Settings. Rest everything stays ON for me as usual.

Apart from Bluetooth and Siri, the only other thing that I can think of is the display and camera. In any phone, the display consumes maximum battery. This update could have a bug with regards to the display and/ or camera since FaceTime was something they were trying to fix.

My recommendation until they roll out the next update:

Turn OFF from the Settings menu:

  1. Bluetooth
  2. Siri
  3. FaceID
  4. FaceTime
  5. Camera access (under Privacy)

I identified the cause of iOS 13.4.1/13.5 battery drain in my case.

It is caused by a non-compliant SIM card.

I changed my mobile from iPhone 6 to SE (2nd Gen) remaining the old-type SIM, and then the battery drain occurred in SE (2nd Gen).

iPhone 6 requires an old-type SIM, meanwhile SE (2nd Gen) requires a VoLTE-ready SIM.

Even though SE (2nd Gen) is available old-type SIM (only for wifi, not for call), it brings on the battery drain.

"The battery drain was resolved after I changed from old-type SIM to VoLTE-ready one!"

The following operations had no effects in my case.

- Turning off wifi, bluetooth, mobile communication and location services.

- Erasing all content and settings.

- Updating iOS from 13.4.1 to 13.5.

Only the airplane mode prevented the battery drain.
