Grainy Image on MacBook Air 2020

Have just purchased a new MacBook Air (2020 model). Have bought to use for home working (Zoom meetings, etc) and the image is really grainy when using Zoom or FaceTime. Is this normal with Macs?

i've just taken delivery of my MBA 2020 and the camera image is so terrible I am not sure what to do about the machine now. I paid to have a ton of upgrades so overall this was a £1800 machine. The camera is about the worst i have seen since laptops started coming with in-built cameras. I hope, Apple, you find that damning... but i suspect you won't care. The web is awash with similar complaints. To see someone commenting saying wipe the screen and check your internet connection; it's just offensive. The camera quality is so bad in low light that i can barely even recognise myself. I joined a video call the other night and everyone was commenting about how bad it was, unprompted. I genuinely don't know if I will keep this macbook... i feel like it will be my last, at least, if this is the type of thing we can expect. Apple support were meant to call me back this evening to discuss it but what a surprise, they didn't.

Hi Grainy Image,

That sounds so unfortunate. Really, this is the first time I’ve *ever* been disappointed in an Apple product, ever since I started with the old Apple IIc back in the day. Holy cow that was in the ‘80s!

Of course I didn’t have problems with the iPhones that everybody complained about since I didn’t have that model. One thing I hope will be certain... Apple will learn from this mistake.

Perhaps they could begin by offering customers who are dependent on their laptop cameras a price-break on an external camera. A significant price-break, please, if you’re listening, O-Omnipotent-Apple-Wise-Ones?

Thanks!

I understand. For some of us, a home computer is a MAJOR investment, even when it is a small laptop.

I hope Apple will find a solution; the public expects excellence without having to dig into the deepest darkest volumes of user manuals to find out what the resolution on the camera is. For that matter:

WHERE IS THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CAMERA IN THE COMPUTER?

Thank you, Apple. I trust you're listening?

If the camera was going to be this bad after making such a huge deal about the new chip they should have made that very public as well. And since they didn't a nice offer would be to supply us with a better webcam to use with the new mac air m1

the camera here is so substandard it's embarassing. Apple is much better than this.

Are you listening to this? I have faith in you Apple you are SO much better than this. Please make it right and offer people a webcam.

Highly disappointed. My new purchase of MacBook Air M1 2020 in March 2021 has a blurry, hazy, grainy camera quality. Even the mic audio is weak. My old MacBook Air 2017, had a 10x sharper camera and audio. I understand this is serious issue in most new MacBooks and there is no fix to it. Apple Customer Care (my call today at 10:52 hours) regretted any resolution, and said the problem is genuine, Apple is looking onto but no resolution yet, and only the reseller can replace the device.

Reseller is APPLE dealer, and APPLE has full control on its dealers. If the reseller does not replace, APPLE should take full responsibility and replace, else there is no sanctity of a premium reseller, and they should be sacked. I am highly disappointed and want a resolution ASAP. Apple must make sure to replace the device. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Seems some Apple MacBooks are having this problem for a year now, it's unbelievable that they have not found a fix. Whats going on?? My device is one month old, the much hyped MacBook Air M1 processor purchased March 2021, and I have a similar issue of blurry/ hazy camera. Apple customer care India admitted there is a problem, but are waiting for a solution. I am tweeting to Mr. Tim Cook every few days T-001, T-002...3,4,5,6 gone and counting. No response. Apple must recall such machines forthwith.

I bought this new Mac Book Air (2020) model too. The camera is really lousy, low quality, blurry. Can't imagine why such a High Tech company would allow such low-grade quality camera appears on its product. I compare it with other older version of MacBook Air, all the other cameras are superb. This new Mac Book Air camera is the worst worst worst amongst all other very very cheap notebook cameras.

I have brought my Mac to Apple authorized service twice, and still unable to fix.

Really don't know what should we do. Anyone can help to suggest?

BMW, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, and several of the leading companies have had recall based on serial numbers for parts replacement. Even Apple ran this program for product issues, I remember for iPhone battery replacements. The onus is on suppliers to replace them Free, so wonder why Apple is silent. They can easily recall the notebooks for replacement of camera. It is very normal
