Hi Giulio,

I have been seeing this crop up in the iPhone forum for at least a week. I did another search and filtered it a little more accurately.

https://discussions.apple.com/search?page=1&q=%23images%20not%20working&content=filterDiscussions&community=2043020&time=week

My phone is fine, it’s the updated iPad that loses the search feature. I assume that the connection to Apple’s servers gets lost or corrupted or some such thing, but that stuff is beyond me so I, just guessing.

Stay safe my friend.

This problem has been so sporadic and it seems to effect different users differently. I never got the glitch on the keyboard that you are describing. I wish that I had more to offer in the way of help. I just came up with that method while I was experimenting the second time that I lost the search ability on my iPad. My iPhone has been fine all along.

You could try a forced restart and see if that helps, but you might just have to wait it out and maybe it will start working again. It won’t hurt to try this and if it still isn’t working, go through the steps I posted again.

I don’t know which model phone you have, so here are the directions for all iPhones.

  • iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold both the Top (or Side) button and the Volume Down buttons until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons until you see the Apple logo.

fyip,

I have been following similar discussions for a few days. There is a fair amount of this going around. It has been happening to me off and on for a week.

What people are talking about is try to do a search in #images in iMessage. When you do a search for other gifs, you get a no results for ____ whatever it is are searching for.

Well, the only thing i'm noticing on my device is that when I tap the #images icon there's 2-3 seconds delay before they appear (both using cellular data as well as wifi connection). Perhaps some weeks ago that delay was almost nonexistent, but I'm not sure about that.

As you say, it could be also an Apple Server glitch, but checking servers status everything seems to be okay.

Let's see if you (we) get an answer in WC.

It took a couple of attempts but I got mine working again. Try this.

Launch Messages

Go to More all the way to the right in the app tray. Tap on Edit

Tap the red minus sign next to Images to remove it from Favorites

Turn Images off below - tap on the green button

Tap Done

Force close messages

Restart your device

Launch Messages

Tap on More in the app tray

Tap Edit

Turn #images on again

This worked for me just now. This is really weird.
