MBP 13" mid 2012 MacBook Pro 9,2 wakes from sleep

Hello,

I've been putting up with this issue for way too long and I can't believe there's no solution for this.

My MBP wakes from sleep on different occasions and I sometimes find myself with a drained battery when I most need it. (Imagine being in the car/train/airplane for some time and then pulling your MBP out to get some work done and you're on an empty battery although you had it charging over night)

I've noticed that there are 2 triggers:

  1. AC connect/disconnect
  2. Absolutely random... apparently

Please note the following: I've upgraded the HDD to a Samsung Evo 850 SSD, the problem was there before and it's still here now.

So 1. is very straight forward, if the MBP is asleep, connecting or disconnecting the charger will cause the optical drive to make it's weird sound (Apple says this is normal but seriously... is it? It sounds like Robocop shutting down). The MBP will then either resume sleep on it's own after a while (noticeable by the pulsating breathing light) or not. In which case it gets quite hot after a while and I will flip up the screen to put it back to sleep by either closing the lid or clicking it to sleep.

Now 2. is really random. Or so it seems. I set it to sleep yesterday around 00:30, only for it to come back on at 01:30, I open the lid, close the lid, and the breathing light shows me it's asleep. Then at 02:40 it apparently turned on again.

You can verify this from my logs (Terminal: log show | grep 'Wake reason'):

And from the pmset log (Terminal: pmset -g log):

As you can imagine, this has been driving me crazy and it's about time I got this fixed.

For your reference, here's my pmlist -g (Terminal: pmset -g):

ystem-wide power settings:
Currently in use:
 standbydelaylow      4200
 standby              1
 womp                 0
 halfdim              1
 hibernatefile        /var/vm/sleepimage
 sms                  0
 networkoversleep     0
 disksleep            0
 standbydelayhigh     4200
sleep                15 (sleep prevented by coreaudiod)
 autopoweroffdelay    28800
 hibernatemode        3
 autopoweroff         1
 ttyskeepawake        1
 displaysleep         15
 highstandbythreshold 50
 acwake               0
 lidwake              1

I've found other articles but none of them had solutions.

  • Wake for network access is off
  • Energy settings have no wake/sleep scheduled
  • This MBP doesn't have power nap as it's not a retina model

Your ideas and solution oriented feedback are very much appreciated!
