Which screen protector is advised for iPhone SE (edges an issue)

I have just had success with a MediaDevil Magicscreen Ultra Tough glass free protector. It’s the iPhone 7 and 8 version, now labelled as SE 2020 as well, but because it’s more flexible than the tempered glass ones (which they also produce but I haven’t tried) it copes with the curves.

It is a very very very precise fit so you do need to be central to avoid the lifted edges. My first attempt was a little low based on the camera and speaker grill, so there was a small unadhered section at the very bottom. I lifted and adjusted the protector and all is well.

I can’t see a rigid item ever working on this screen easily, unless some SE’s were produced differently. This flexible one is just wide enough to cover the lit screen, and just copes with the curve.

I have had some correspondence with MediaDevil (after I’d already ordered) about this issue, and I must say, they seem a great company who genuinely want the best for their customer.

I am more than happy to leave this protector on my phone and just start using it properly, regardless of what the other brands manage to do, and would replace with the same if I ever needed to.

Unfortunately, no protector that says it’s compatible with the 7, 8 and SE 2020 is likely to fit. I have tried 4 brands, from budget and main brands. I’ve had a full refund for the Spigen GLASR EZFIT, ones already, and on Amazon in the UK, Spigen have removed mention of compatibility with the new SE from the product details, and changed their own site.

A post on Macrumors shows a customer service response from the manufacturer saying they are working a product compatible with the SE, even though sine the SE was announced, all brands just slapped SE compatibility onto their iPhone 8 product lines.

I fear this Belkin one will be the same.

They all leave a huge un-adhered border round the entire protector. Amazon reviews on two of the others I tried are also showing people with identical results.

The manufacturers are hopefully realising that the SE screen is not identical to the older phones. The curve at the edge starts a tiny bit earlier. Which is strange.

This is not conjecture or a bad batch issue I’m afraid.

Just to provide an update. I received my replacement Belkin screen protector and it fits perfectly.

There is a different batch code on the box so I think they must have adjusted the fit.

The new batch code is A1520DZ (old code was A1220DZ).

I hope this is useful for anyone considering buying a screen protector.

Just to update everyone - the Media Devil one does not have the halo.

I finally found one that works! It is on Amazon 9.99 pack of 4, just search glass screen protector for iPhone se2020, and looking for the one actually says only for iPhone se 2020 and not for iPhone 7&8 to use (it sould be on the top) I put it on yesterday, take a lot hard squeeze but it finally left no babble and no halos at all! I’m very satisfied!

I can confirm as well. They leave this air gap border around the long edge of the new 2020 SE.

Thankfully the ones I bought were inexpensive.

Just frustrating to see so many manufacturers release these things without testing. The 4.7 screen is NOT the same as the 7/8.

I know, I understand, and thanks. But more and more brands on Amazon are changing their product descriptions and taking any mention of the SE off their protectors. Unless it’s a film/PET protector that can flex and bend right at the edges it can’t work. No flat glass item that sits flush on an iPhone 7 screen can possibly be flush on an SE.

I would just advise to not bother wasting money on anything that says it’s compatible with the older phones, particularly the 7.

I just ordered the Media Devil too. I first tried a pack of iPhone 7 Spiegens that didn't work (that I had for my previous phone), then went through three Mkeke ones from Amazon and four LK ones from Amazon. Those said specifically for the SE and I followed instructions exactly and got the halo just like the Spiegens.

I wanted to provide my experience on this which might help others.

I purchased the Belkin protector shown above (Belkin InvisiGlass Ultra Screen Protection for iPhone SE / 8 / 7) and have experienced exactly the same issue as you all with the wide border around the edges of the protector.

I used the Contact option and received a call back from an adviser who refused to acknowledge that the new SE screen is any different from the old 7/8 and said it was 'interesting' that my protector did not fit.

Despite refusing to acknowledge this they are sending me a new Belkin protector which has been updated - he was unable to advise how it had been updated given he wouldn't acknowledge any difference between the screens! He said it was probably a bad batch that was produced but I don't think this is realistic given the number of people having the same issue with different products.

I will let you know how I get on with the new screen.

I think before they come out any solution... just no any glass kind (hard) screen protector for SE then...........

I can say they are different! Because I got the same issue, and just to test it I peeled it off and put on my iPhone 8 again, it whet on perfectly ! The same piece of glass..... so the difference have to be the screen!
