Direct TV / ATT care code 205.4

I am using Apple TV model A1842 w/tvOS 13.4. I select Directv as the provider and use my tested and working Directv user account as well as my tested and working password. The response message on the Apple TV is:

SIGN IN ERROR That User ID doesn't seem to work here. Please sign in with a different ID. Care Code 205.4.


I have tried it many times and am certain it is not a typo issue. I am able to log into my Directv account on computers and ipad with my known credentials and am not having any issue - tested by watching an Showtime show.


I have reset the Apple TV to factory setting and restarted with no change whatsoever. Please help

I've spent hours on the phone with DirecTV changing passwords and user id with no progress. So after messing around with my ipad settings here's what working for me.


In the ipad settings for TV Provider, instead of selecting DirecTV as the provider I selected AT&T Uverse as my provider. I tried signing in to that and it doesn't work but then when I hit the "Back" button it brings up the old provider selection screen. Then I selected DirecTV and sign in and it worked.

Hey Guys, so here is what I found works for this problem, you need to reset your password for your Direct TV account, then sign out on the apple tv on the tv provider section, then resign in, that should fix the problem.


I also found out that it has to do with the new login system. when you can get that old way of logging in where you click direct tv then it takes you to their sign on page, it will work with out the password change. but most of the app are using the old way.

I get the same message when trying to log into the app through the Apple TV. My HBO max is provided through my AT&T cell account and not Direct TV. I have not called anyone and will likely just mirror play.


This streaming service used to be through an AT&T streaming app and that was crap too. A lot of issues with that as well. AT&T, Direct TV and Apple don’t seem to care enough to sort it out based on this thread so I just plan to find a work around.

Not sure if anyone has solved this yet, but I struggled with this for months and just figured it out. I have an att email For my direct tv and used to have to sign in via directtv... something must have switched Bc suddenly now if I sign in via at&t uverse it solves the problem and I have access to both hbo and bravo. It’s weird not sure what happened.
