New LG CX OLED with flashing line at bottom of screen when watching content on inbuilt Apple TV app

Hi, really not sure where this question should go, however I have a brand new LG CX65 OLED tv.

I was watching Bad Boys for Life in 4k last night streamed from the inbuilt Apple TV app. All through the movie, intermittently, there was an annoying flashing coloured line along the bottom of the screen. I have found other people complaining of the same thing on Reddit and it “seems” to be an Apple issue.

Is there any way to report this to Apple for a fix? I haven’t seen the issue on any other source (Disney, Netflix, Google Play, free to air sources)

Here’s a shot of a red line and another of a white line, in dark scenes it’s really distracting.

I'm convinced this is an LG issue, not an Apple issue. It was occurring on both my Plex app and my Apple TV app. I found a setting under the Aspect Ratio Settings that even reads "if the edge of the screen is not clean please turn this feature off". It's the "Just Scan" setting.

Agree with raised black levels on Apple TV 4K which doesn’t look good. Furthermore, Atmos on the Netflix app doesn’t work properly either and the channels keep getting mixed up (i.e. speech from centre suddenly and randomly comes through rears intermittently).

My next solution was to buy an Amazon Fire Cube. Everything works, but The Apple TV app doesn’t support Atmos yet. Is such a frustrating situation.

Tried the ‘Just Scan’ option too on LG and doesn’t fix the line issue.

Can anyone tell me how I go about raising this issue with Apple support?

I'm suffering the same on my 55C9 - the two titles I can remember in which it happens consistently are Bad Boys (the first one) and 24 Hour Party People.

A few observations:

  1. as you can see from the two images posted by OP (and consistent with my experience), the colour of the line at the bottom of the content matches the colour of the bottom right corner of the screen. Hence, if the whole bottom of the screen is a fairly uniform colour, the line won't be noticable, but I think it's probably there all the time.
  2. I have observed the line starting to appear as the stream kicks into a certain quality level, eg I rewound Bad Boys, and there appeared to be a bit of a skip as it got back into full quality, accompanied by the line.
  3. I'm afraid I'm fairly certain this issue isn't limited to the Apple app, but I can't remember where else I saw it. I just remember my heart sinking as I realised it was likely an issue on LG's end. The Apple app seems to suffer to a far greater extent than anything else though, given that very little of my content is consumed there, yet I've only noticed the line once in another app.

Well I’ll be ****, I just verified this. You’re right! This has to be either an LG issue or maybe worse. It could be a studio issue. They could have provided a faulty digital file that only effects the LG C9? I’m at a loss now because I had only seen this issue with Apple TV app. Never Netflix or Amazon Prime. I wonder where Amazon is letting you stream that movie? I wonder if they are redirecting you to an Apple server.

It definitely fixed the issue for me. I have several go-to movies to check as I know exactly where the issue pops up in them, and I've checked them all and the issue is gone. Again, on my set anyway, this coincides with the "Aspect Ratio" option being greyed out while using the Apple TV app.

This update clearly didn't fix it for everyone though. But hopefully it's a sign that Apple is working on it.

New CX55 owner here and just got it 2 weeks ago. Not trying to dig up old news as there appears to be a potential fix out there via the lastest updates, but I wanted to throw out there that I experienced the line issue while watching the ESPN app via Apple TV HD box (not the 4K version). The white line would flash under the ticker every couple of minutes. It made watching the game unbearable. First time I experienced it and so far only content it has happened on. Glad I found this thread and the great info. Really appreciate all the time and effort you folks put into trying to get a solution for this issue. Just wanted to thank you all and share my experience.
