New LG CX OLED with flashing line at bottom of screen when watching content on inbuilt Apple TV app

Hi, really not sure where this question should go, however I have a brand new LG CX65 OLED tv.

I was watching Bad Boys for Life in 4k last night streamed from the inbuilt Apple TV app. All through the movie, intermittently, there was an annoying flashing coloured line along the bottom of the screen. I have found other people complaining of the same thing on Reddit and it “seems” to be an Apple issue.

Is there any way to report this to Apple for a fix? I haven’t seen the issue on any other source (Disney, Netflix, Google Play, free to air sources)

Here’s a shot of a red line and another of a white line, in dark scenes it’s really distracting.

any comments or suggestions welcome, thanks

Just adding another voice that I am seeing the same issue with Apple TV app on my LG C9 OLED. A white flashing line on the screen along the very bottom row of pixels. The first movie I thought it was a problem with that particular movie, but then it happened with a second movie last night. I turned 'just scan' off to stop it showing, but yes this is a band-aid fix which crops the picture a little bit on all sides.... hopefully Apple can investigate and fix the issue with the Apple TV app on LG webOS

I got the the update. Still have the aspect ratio problem, but for me I can still change the aspect ratio to work around the issue. Isn’t greyed our for me (LG CX 55).

I noticed it doesn’t happen if I start the show from the AppleTV home screen (like continue watching X). But if I navigate to AppleTV+ and then select a show the Aspect ratio is messed up.

Just found the update available on my CX as well.

Thought I would go back and check the birthing scene from “See” mentioned above and the flashing line was not visible at all this time regardless of the Just Scan setting.

I updated the app and tried again, same result, no flashing line but still had the Aspect Ratio and Just Scan settings available.

It definitely fixed the issue for me. I have several go-to movies to check as I know exactly where the issue pops up in them, and I've checked them all and the issue is gone. Again, on my set anyway, this coincides with the "Aspect Ratio" option being greyed out while using the Apple TV app.

This update clearly didn't fix it for everyone though. But hopefully it's a sign that Apple is working on it.

I have a 65" LG E9 that has this same issue and have looked everywhere and even emailed a TV guru on blu-ray.com with no response. I prefer to use the AppleTV app over the AppleTV 4k box. The app is perfect other than that annoying line. I would have to turn just scan off and the screen shift on. The latest AppleTV app update now you can't adjust Just Scan off or on anymore it is not an option. Please Apple fix this.

Side note - Also Apple please hire me to work with movie distributors to get the latest versions of movies that are in 4k or newly remastered on blu-ray to AppleTV for example An American Werewolf in London and Robocop the remastered Arrow versions and anything Shout Factory remastered especially any John Carpenter movies and the newly remastered Flash Gordon... Also Total Recall is in the wrong aspect ratio.

The last Apple TV App update took away the Aspect Ratio and Just Scan features. I am having this issue as well. Before Apple updated the Apple TV App and took away Aspect Ratio an and Just Scan features you could cut Just Scan off and cut screen shift on but this was not a fix you would just lose the true aspect ratio of the movie. I called Apple support and they have all the info on my LG E9 65" OLED and the info on the latest LG firmware and the latest Apple TV App update and the analytics that had update while on the call with Apple Tech Support. All information is being given to the Apple Engineers so hopefully then can get this issue resolved. It is not the TV as other apps work just fine. There is some issue between the Apple TV App and the LG OLED TVs.

I’ve been keeping my eye on this thread since purchasing my C9 at the start of the year and too noticing this issue.

There was an app update this morning when turning on my TV, was hoping it was finally the fix we’ve all been waiting for. Unfortunately the issue still persists, still a thin coloured horizontal line across the bottom of the screen for some content.

This is very annoying now as it’s only the Apple TV app where this appears, Netflix, Prime etc all display without issues.

A poster above has stated the the CX has already received a fix and hopefully that means the C9 is to follow. Please fix this already Apple! It’s putting me off buying further content from iTunes.

MrJay30,

Apple is not going to read this thread. I know this, because they told me so themselves when I wanted to point them to it to show them how many of us are complaining about the issue.

You need to do your own due diligence and call them. I spent hours of my life reporting this. Sending them data etc. The result was the CX getting fixed and not the C9. I encourage you to please call this in on your own time.

I’ve done 4-5 call with Apple regarding this issue for a 2019 E9 and it’s still not fixed. I guess they prefer me to use the AppleTV 4K instead of the app. The AppleTV 4K has its own issues like the iTunes movie library disappears but my library shows under AppleTV. Apple we know iTunes will disappear eventually and you want us to pay stream everything versus buying a movie or music. Soon I’ll have 12 different streaming services to get my movies.
