IPhoneSE 2020 wifi painfully slow??

Is anyone else having wifi problems w the new iPhone SE?

It runs in all cases about 75% slower than miy old iPhone 6s. I am on a 1GB fiber internet connection, with Apple Airports throughout.

I generally use the 5GHz spectrum.

A full phone reset, and using only factory settings, makes no difference. At all ...

I have similar inconveniences.

I have identified two problems, all values given - D/U [Mb/s]:

1) iPhone SE 2020 has noticeably worse wifi range than my previous iPhone 6s. In the place where 6s connects to my 5GHz network and still reaches 20/4, SE does not detect the network at all. The range on the 2.4GHz band is also worse and shows about one beam less. Sometimes, even close to the access point, a message is displayed saying that the network cannot be connected. This does not happen on any other device (4 iPhones, 2 iPads).

2) iPhone SE 2020 has a problem with the simultaneous use of the 2.4GHz band over wifi and bluetooth. When I turn off bluetooth, the bandwidth increases significantly. For example, near access point it increases from 29/44 to 98/82, far from access point it increases from 8/13 to 23/37.

I have already started regretting this purchase.

My setup is: Mikrotik hEX, UniFi AP-AC-LR

This seems like a 2.4 GHz WiFi issue in my case. The 5GHz WiFi network I have works fine but on the SE, the 2.4 GHz network functions approximately at 1/3 speed of other devices I have on that network. There is definitely some firmware problem with the SE I suspect...like it can’t properly use the WiFi spectrum in the 2.4 GHz band. It does work, just is noticeably slower than it ought to be.

I’ve had mine since the end of April so out of the return period. They ran me around with the WiFi issue and still ongoing with it. Second generation AirPods have a popping noise while with voice calls or FaceTime and they admitting that is a problem. Hoping we get enough people supporting this issue to have a clear solution. Otherwise just try adjusting your router. Make sure it isn’t a home WiFi problem. I think the issue has to do with the new generation WiFi chip

I have exactly the same issue. Even if I’m sat right near the router or access point I get 2 bars and not a full 3!! It’s mad. Data transfer is really really slow.

So I decided to do some side by side tests with my work iPhone 8 about 2 years older however I get about 4 times faster in data rate, same test, same files.

test range by walking away from an AP or router. iPhone 8 solid, great signal maintained, iPhone SE 2020. Drops signal, drops to 4G and will not reconnect with SSID, saying wrong password or unable to connect - move closer. TBH if I moved closer I’d be sat on the antenna.

as a previous iPhone SE owner which was great this iPhone is a major disappointment.

all the reviews suggested that this was an updated reworked iPhone 8. It actually falls very very far from an iPhone 8. It’s much worse.

I have done all the supposedly ‘fixes’ offered by Apple and suggestions on this thread and nothing changes.

There is definitely a software, or even worse, a hardware WiFi component problem. If hardware is the cause then this will be Apple in denial that there actually is a problem as they won’t want to fix or recall.!!!!!!

it is bloody annoying.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for sharing. I was going crazy looking for information online (or someone with the same problem).

My wife is having the same issue. Just bought one and wifi is slow. We compared it to the old iPhone 7 she was replacing and the SE is about 66% slower. Not a problem with 4G, just wifi.

Apple stores are closed here due to the pandemic, so no genius bar either.

Hopefully someone can provide more insights.

I have done factory resets, and not copied over data/settings from the prior phone, and other methods.

No improvements whatsoever.

Further, I have found the phone handles 5GHz very poorly.

It's loses the connection where my iPhone6s, iPad, Macs, etc have no problem whatsoever.

Further we have a single integrated network with many wifi access points, and Ethernet.
