IPhoneSE 2020 wifi painfully slow??

Is anyone else having wifi problems w the new iPhone SE?

It runs in all cases about 75% slower than miy old iPhone 6s. I am on a 1GB fiber internet connection, with Apple Airports throughout.

I generally use the 5GHz spectrum.

A full phone reset, and using only factory settings, makes no difference. At all ...

I have similar inconveniences.

I have identified two problems, all values given - D/U [Mb/s]:

1) iPhone SE 2020 has noticeably worse wifi range than my previous iPhone 6s. In the place where 6s connects to my 5GHz network and still reaches 20/4, SE does not detect the network at all. The range on the 2.4GHz band is also worse and shows about one beam less. Sometimes, even close to the access point, a message is displayed saying that the network cannot be connected. This does not happen on any other device (4 iPhones, 2 iPads).

2) iPhone SE 2020 has a problem with the simultaneous use of the 2.4GHz band over wifi and bluetooth. When I turn off bluetooth, the bandwidth increases significantly. For example, near access point it increases from 29/44 to 98/82, far from access point it increases from 8/13 to 23/37.

I have already started regretting this purchase.

My setup is: Mikrotik hEX, UniFi AP-AC-LR

Having WIFI issues as well on the SE 2020. Speed isn’t really the issue, but connection drops are. The device seems to (often) drop its WiFi connection when turning off the screen/standby mode. When switching it on or picking it up it shows the 4G connection, flip flops a few times between 4G and WiFi and connects to WiFi.

Once connected, WiFi is fairly stable, although range seems to be less than on other iPhones (SE2016 &8)

Tried this both on WiFi network (ubiquity ap-ac-lr) and hotspot connection to iPhone 8, same behavior for both networks.

Apple helpdesk suggested to restore the device but after some time I can conclude that didn’t resolve the issue.

Now waiting for some update to come, confident Apple will fix it.

i haven’t noticed a speed issue but range and drop outs are dire - i had the old SE and it didn’t have these problems.

what i have just noticed is that in settings i connect to wifi (2 bars) but as soon as open the browser it goes to 4G. I’ve also noticed on facetime it drops to 4G as soon as i make a call.

getting fed up with this and only had the phone less than a week!

I just noticed the other day I’m only getting 22Mbps on this iPhone on 2.4Ghz (n) while my old Samsung S7 gets 120Mbps (distance doesn’t change the speed)

At my church I’m not familiar with what kinda router they have, but I get 100Mbps minimum there (They have 500Mbps up and down) and it’s 2.4Ghz so I’m unsure what could be the cause unless their router is newer. (Like 2.4Ghz ac vs my n)

I do get about 230Mbps on 5Ghz (ac) which is my full internet speed. Though it feels less consistent still with ping vs my S7.

I’m disappointed because I feel the WiFi was a big corner cut to make the phone the price it is. I love how much faster this phone is in general compared to my very slow S7 but can’t believe how poor the WiFi acts compared to it.

I do some network heavy (Though it shouldn’t be because I set it to 5Mbps stream on this phone) computer streaming my desktop and never had issues on my S7 (Set to 40Mbps) in that area. This iPhone stutters regularly.

I just received my new iPhone se yesterday and, yes, I am quite disappointed with the slowness of its Wifi connection, really 😒. I couldn't even download the 13.5 update: I let it download and woke up to a "20 hours left" message. I updated my iPad on the same Wifi network without any issues so the problem must be with the phone and not the network. I'm extremely disappointed with the performance of the new iPhone se 30 minutes after receiving it because of this issue. Even downloading apps like WhatsApp is brutally slow. What a shame!

Hello Faisal. I wish I could help but I don’t have a clue how to resolve this situation. The only solution that I could think of is to return the phone and get a refund or sell it. I seriously cannot understand how Apple could release an iPhone with such a defect. Here, too, all my electronic gadgets are working just fine except for the iPhone se 2020. My iPhone 7 Plus had no issues downloading and installing the 13.5 update. I seriously hope that I can return the phone without losing a lot of the money that I paid for it.

I have this exact same issue. In my home office which is the furtherest room away from the router, the 2020 se gets almost no wifi at all. I put it side by side with the google pixel 3a that I was replacing and ran speedtest, with the SE being 4x slower. Only when i get into the same room as the router, does the wifi pickup on the SE. I'm typing on my 2014 macbook pro which is getting full wifi, while my 2020 se's wifi is going in and out to the point that it's unusable. Something is really wrong with this phone.

They will more than likely shoot back on the call asking for diagnostics. Then tell you to reset network settings. Then restore your phone to factory defaults with the full wipe. Then when it still occurs they ask for more diagnostics. Then replace your phone. Lastly if nothing at that point we hope they don’t tell you the same thing that they told me, which is “that is how the phone is suppose to be operating.”

That’s great. When I went through support I sent screen capture videos to my rep and she saw what I meant about dropping network. The tech team still determined that as of iOS 8 they claimed that’s how the connection is suppose to act. If they forward on your ticket to the higher ups let us know. Too many problems with this model for them not to address. Though you should see if you phone drops WiFi a couple moments after you connect a FaceTime call.

Thank you for launching this discussion, it's very helpful. Unfortunately I have the same issue. I've got my new SE since two month and I noticed already at home that the wifi was slow, but I thought the problem was coming from my Internet provider and I just simply turned off the wifi. But it became clear, now as we're abroad with my boyfriend. While he has no problem connecting to the local wifi with his iPhone 7 I cannot even connect with mine. Ever sine I noticed this I did a couple of test in restaurants and public places, my phone shows always less available networks and with less power (he's got 3 bars, I've got 1). He has no problem at all sending videos on social media, while I cannot even join the network. Sometimes I manage to join, but i've got only 1 bar, connection is really poor. My mails don't even load, I cannot send a picture, etc.. basically I can't use my phone even if there's a wifi around me, which is very frustrating. If I haven't had my boyfriend's phone with me, I would be in trouble now as I'm relying on the internet for everything... booking hotels, getting train tickets, etc.. I'm very disappointed. I'll report this problem to Apple Support and try to get a refund I think and probably change my phone. I was so happy about the fact the Apple finally lowered his prices and they came out with this new SE. I red a lot of reviews before I bought it and heard only good things about it, but it seems that this deal was too good to be true...:(

I don't know that I've noticed slower rates on my wifi but there are definitely some problems. I upgraded from a 6 rather than 6s so there may be a difference there. I've noticed that the new SE fails to reconnect to my wireless earbuds and my sync system in my truck (this was not a problem with my 6) I have text messages and phone calls that won't come through at times and then will dump them to me later (again, not an issue that I had with my 6). I have apps that will open and then immediately close, generally if I fully close the app and restart them they open the second time fine. Finally, I find that there are times that it fails to recognize my fingerprint (though I can't be sure that this isn't due to the screen protector). I suspect there were some QC issues that were missed during the pandemic roll-out but since they don't seem to be getting better with service patches I suspect the issue is hardware based. I already gave my 6 away or I would certainly go back to it.
