iPad Pro touch intermittent or non responsive issue resolving

I also suggest people who have the same issue report feedback to Apple to increase the possibility of having this problem solved.

In this post, I will mainly collect and share information that I remembered or searched, since I have been combating this issue for years... After my 5th replacement, this issue remains and continues to get worse, all the evidence support the “software issue” theory, and yields the great outcome - it’s solvable.

But unfortunately, it has to be solved by Apple.

—————-

If this is a hardware issue, it should affect more device and make a huge intention. Thus it is most likely a software issue.

Also, we have seen lots devices having no issue, including me. This means the software issue is possibly combined with some hardware glitch.

There is an example of the software glitch on iPhone. No matter the touchID or FaceID, once the device has been unlocked, screen will appear an invisible keyboard. When trying to switching homes by swiping left or right, letters or numbers will show similar to typing, home screen will not move at all. This is a typical software glitch and Apple has NO intention of solving it, as we have noticed this since iOS 11, because they already have a crappy iOS till nowadays and they are putting fires everywhere .

Based on such fact, we have reasons to believe the iOS for iPad has a serious BUG and would be triggered by unknown operation. It could be a software or a graph of text, which crashed the buggy iOS/iPadOS, especially when it has more codes to support Apple Pencil.

We have no idea when did this happen, but without a doubt, Apple is no longer the elite company that provides superb user experience. Thanks to Steve Jobs they are still a monster company but has no solid fundamentals.

Back to the topic, more and more system settings will be tried to test the significance of affecting this intermittent or even non responsive touch issue, when spare time been given. Not guaranteed though.

Some suggested solutions (not working for 90% users) include:

  1. Bluetooth toggling,
  2. Touch Accommodation turned on
  3. iPad case with solid back cover
  4. Turning it on/off, hard reset, iOS reinstallation
  5. screen protector removal, cleaning
  6. TBD

Some known issues of the software (of my iPad Pro 2nd Gen LTE) include:

  1. LTE doesn’t work after using at Airplane mode for a while.
  2. After being used for a while, iPad is no longer recognized by iTunes, a system restoring has been forced to apply
  3.  Intermittent touch, screen non responsive completely, most of the time happens in landscape mode
  4. By far, there was no sign before the issue occurred, tbd

If you got my post before it got deleted by the community moderators.

This is a design/engineering/manufacturing hardware flaw having to do with flexion of the iPad's internal components always being flexed slightly and constantly eventually causing the narrow and full iPad length motherboard, various electrical connection/electrical continuity issues.

I believe there is no fix or solution for this!

If there was a real solution to this intermittent, unresponsive touch screen issue, I would think Apple design and engineering would have solved this issue long before now!

These Apple employees are hired because they are supposed to be the “A” players in their respective fields of expertise.

Apple engineers were made aware of this issue many months ago and still have not come up with a fix/solution.

I believe it is because there isn't one and never will be a solution to this forthcoming.

This is an unsolvable issue.

I do not think Apple will ever have a solution for this as this is a basic, from initial design to engineering/manufacturing flaw that was never properly quality tested before product release.

Everyone with this issue needs to call, hound, and inundate Apple with support calls on this issue to, at least, start logging calls about this issue to get Apple to recognise that they have a potentially growing issue of iPads/iPad Pro models contracting intermittent, unresponsive touch screen problems/issues.

I just purchased another, used 4-year old, 2016, 12.9 inch screen 256 GBs iPad Pro that I purchased for a very good price in great condition and operation with iPadOS 13.3.2 installed, to replace my 2015, 12.9 inch screen 128 GBs model, as I have NO confidence in any of Apple's newer iPad Pro models or the 2019, 10.5 iPad Air 3, which is based upon the 2017, 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro models, which users are now experiencing the exact same intermittent, unresponsive touch screen issue.

Apple lost out on a new or refurbished iPad Pro sale from me because of the lack of confidence I have in the more expensive iPad Pro models.

Fortunately, I saw your first reply in my email. I’ll post it somewhere else once possible. They deleted my first graph for unknown reason.

tbh, I used to believe this was a hardware issue, but after checking the different tear downs a crossing all iPad Pro 12.9 platforms, I’m not very convinced. This issue happened to all platforms except the original iPad Pro 9.7 inch. So basically any iPad that was not the size Steve Jobs approved has the touch issue. The motherboards have all types of shapes.

by far I only saw this problem on only 12.9 pro models, I have owned almost all other iPad models and none had such thing, including 11” and 10.5”. Also I didn’t have the problem when first using this specific iPad, but found serious issues from other replacements from the unboxing. Again, I still guess it could be solved on software end since the issue happened regardless the position it was laid. One thing I suspect it was related to hardware was it was much worse during the winter, when it was so dry and people carry static electricity a lot. I never had issue with my other iOS devices so I am guessing it could be something to affect.

I understand your feelings and I know how frustrated and angry it feels when you are ignored by a company whose products you used to agree strongly. Let’s face it, the fact is they don’t care at all. Look at the ugly iOS 11, they have to iterate to iOS 12 to almost solely for improving the performance. Don’t waste your time on speculating the cause, let’s complain and move on. Best of luck on your next device.

This is a very common issue on the 2017, 10.5 inch screen iPad Pros and now the 2019, 10.5 inch screen iPad Air 3 models.

Also, has been an big issue with many 2018, 11 inch screen iPad Pro models and some 2017/2018, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models, as well.

The 1st gen 2015/2016, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pros, while affected, are in the minority for commonly affected large screen iPad models.

See this long standing post here.

As I stated, the logic boards in all of the other iPad Pro models goes the full length of the iPads’ back case/chassis.

It is a shorter board in the 2015/2016 12.9 inch iPad Pro models with a long flexibleLightning cable wire assembly attached to Lightning port.

All other newer iPad Pro models have a narrow, full length logic board with the Lightning connector being part of this board, now.

A completely different board design in newer iPad Pro models.

I have had NO such intermittent touch screen issues with either of my 2015 and 2016, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models and I believe it is because of this internally shorter logic board and long length flexible wiring connection that does not put additional stresses on these iPad's internal logic boards, they way they might on the full length logic boards in the newer model larger screen iPad/iPad Pro models.
