Please read the rest of the thread to understand what is being said. The light you see is the face detector (proximity detector) that turns off the screen when you hold the phone to your face while on a call.

That is not an indication of a camera. That is the face detect system.

"Proximity Sensor" is I believe the more correct term.

Indeed ...... now the trick is, for me to remember that, the next time the question comes up.

That is because the wavelength of the IR light used for Proximity Sensors varies. Some can be seen by cameras, others can not.
