Powered off iPad Pro battery drain... iPad OS 13.5

This is insane, since updating my iPad Pros 11 2nd Generation, to the latest update, both of iPad Pros have had a battery drain, while the iPads are fully powered down and turned off! Before the iPad OS13.5, neither one of them had this problem or any battery issues! Since both have different back ups, I find it hard to believe this isn’t an issue with the latest release of the OS. Is anyone else having this issue? I mean, literally... I charge both iPad Pros up, to 100%, turn them off, and the next morning they are literally at least than 60%! Is anyone having a similar problem or noticed this kind of battery drain while your iPad or iPhone are totally powered off?

For me, I found that turning it off, by powering it down, doesn't seem to turn it off totally... I found that after it shuts down, if you click the power button, even lightly it will boot back up! My solution came after realizing if I power it down, click it back on, then shut it down again, it seems to stop the power drain! This has worked on both of my iPad pros! Not sure why it isn't shutting down totally the first time it is powered off, but it doesn't ... Even the lightest click of the power button powers it back up, but if I powered it down again, after that boot up, it usually will shut it off totally... You can try that and see if it works...

  1. Power it off totally
  2. Click the power button lightly, after it shuts down! You will see it boots back up, after even the lightest push of the power button, then once it starts up...
  3. Power it down again.
  4. Click button lightly again to make sure it doesn't power up after a light press of the button!

That is what has stopped the power drain for my iPad pros!

I don't know if it will be the same for everyone but this seemed to work on both my iPad pros!

I have had the same problem with my brand-new ipad pro 12 since I’ve updated and I have contacted AppleCare and spoke to someone on the phone and they’ve ran a Diagnostics and he said everything looks completely fine so told me to try and re-install the update so I tried it and Still the same so I decided to downgrade back to 13.4.1 and now it works completely fine and no battery drain.

Same problem (iPhone 11 Pro Max) - I’ve been researching this for some time. I now believe it is some sort of synchronization thrashing problem. This worked for me:

Log out of your Apple account.

Log back in.

I chose to “remove” data like contacts, etc. which is an option when logging out of your Apple account.

Another poster elected to keep local data and then did a “merge” when he logged back in Which worked for him.

I also reset my network settings but I’m not sure this was necessary.

I was also finding my iPad was not shutting down even with my magnetic cover. Along with running the battery to zero, I also had issues with it taking 24 hrs to charge. I am unsure how the setting changed, as I did not change, and wondering if it changes in the update. In the settings my iPad was set on auto lock never and lock/unlock turned off.

Not sure if others is having this particular issue but it fixed all the problems.

Hi there I did manage to do it when I had the previous update 13.5. I thought I would update it to 13.5.1 and maybe it will fix it but realised that since I’ve updated to13.5.1 I can’t downgrade it back to 13.4.1. You can only downgrade it to the previous updates. And now the problems got worse as I Fully charge it for one night and leave it for a couple of days and find out the battery is completely flat now and it’s definitely something to do with the firmware Not hardware. And I found out that I switched it off properly with the power button and found out after a couple hours came back on by it self. Looks like we just have to wait until the new iOS 14 comes out and hopefully Apple would have fixed it.

Hi Guys.... until we hope that Apple will fix this issues - but at the meantime... you can put your ipad in "Airplane Mode" and it sure won't drain the battery. I had it charged 100% ... then set it on Airplane Mode before turning my ipad off.

I didn't use my ipad for 3 days and turned it on over the weekend.... guess what? It's still 100% full! :) So, I'm thinking - when you are not using your ipad - set it on the airplane mode for now.

Hope this helps! :)

I have had this problem with my 11” iPad Pro. I think I know something related to the cause.

I have an Apple Watch and an iPhone, so I use Wi-Fi Calling. I have seen a change on the iPad since iPadOS 13.5 related to Wi-Fi calling when powering up the iPad. It’s as if the iPad spent the night trying to enable Wi-Fi calling.

I have reported this to Apple.

I don’t have a good solution. The workaround I have been using is not shutting down the iPad.
