Powered off iPad Pro battery drain... iPad OS 13.5

This is insane, since updating my iPad Pros 11 2nd Generation, to the latest update, both of iPad Pros have had a battery drain, while the iPads are fully powered down and turned off! Before the iPad OS13.5, neither one of them had this problem or any battery issues! Since both have different back ups, I find it hard to believe this isn’t an issue with the latest release of the OS. Is anyone else having this issue? I mean, literally... I charge both iPad Pros up, to 100%, turn them off, and the next morning they are literally at least than 60%! Is anyone having a similar problem or noticed this kind of battery drain while your iPad or iPhone are totally powered off?

For me, I found that turning it off, by powering it down, doesn't seem to turn it off totally... I found that after it shuts down, if you click the power button, even lightly it will boot back up! My solution came after realizing if I power it down, click it back on, then shut it down again, it seems to stop the power drain! This has worked on both of my iPad pros! Not sure why it isn't shutting down totally the first time it is powered off, but it doesn't ... Even the lightest click of the power button powers it back up, but if I powered it down again, after that boot up, it usually will shut it off totally... You can try that and see if it works...

  1. Power it off totally
  2. Click the power button lightly, after it shuts down! You will see it boots back up, after even the lightest push of the power button, then once it starts up...
  3. Power it down again.
  4. Click button lightly again to make sure it doesn't power up after a light press of the button!

That is what has stopped the power drain for my iPad pros!

I don't know if it will be the same for everyone but this seemed to work on both my iPad pros!

Why is this battery diminishing when turned off? I am an electrical engineer, and in no way, outside of a defect in code or hardware, could this much energy dissipation occur overnight. Is the wireless charger on when the iPad is turned off? Is it constantly hailing; looking for a device to charge? Please advise, as this just started happening with the latest update.

I have the same issue with my iPadPro 10,5, only it doesn´t last to 60% percent in the morning but shuts down because of an empty battery. It´s now been charging since half past seven am, charged to 75% (till half past eleven!) , then I took the power cord off to charge my phone. During that half hour it dropped back to 63%. It´s my fourth iPad and I wanted to buy another one after this. But if I have to be afraid of things like this happening, I´ll keep using my old iPad Air instead...

Thanks, I had problems in the past, not having apple care but here it offered the recent update as a reason for support.

They ran the diagnostic stuff twice but my battery wouldn´t "talk back" to them. So they think something ist wrong with the battery. But they´re not sure either. (I also asked to be bumped up to senior level but I had the feeling that second man was either not very pleased having to deal with me or not much more competent than the first level person. He suggested resetting my iPad completely to see if the problems would go away.)

Not a bad idea but when I tried to do a fresh backup, it was not possible. And the last backup was four days back, that´s more or less the time the problems started, so I don´t want to rely on that backup as it might be corrupted.

Still, I hope that everybody with this problem calls apple until they start to really deal with the problem.

Add me to the list. Updated to 13.6 and there goes the battery. I tried everything, and just reset the iPad to factory settings, wiping everything clean and starting from fresh. No luck. Battery is draining like a kItchen sink. It was perfect prior to the update. Apple told me to get a new battery so they’re no help. Just writing this response has resulted in 6 percent battery loss

unbelievable.

Yeah, I have the exact same problem with my 2nd gen iPad Pro. I can‘t remember when it started but it was definately after upgrading the iOS. To this day subsequent updates did not solve the problem.

I opened up another discussion topic about this because at the time I did not find this topic, but the only thing people suggested was to contact apple: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251545907

So I took it to a local apple dealer and he said the only thing he could do was to send it in to replace the battery or to send it in for diagnosis and service, both with a hefty out-of-warrenty-service-fee.

I have the same problem with mi iPad Pro 2020 with iOS 14.0.1

Battery drains 4-5% while it’s turned off. Sometimes it drains even the 10%.

Yesterday i don’t know what happend, i turned off my iPad with 45% of battery and the following morning the battery was at 48%. That’s insane.

i can’t understand, i tried to reset in dfu, nothing.

i’m waiting for the next update

I have the iPad Pro 10.5 and the latest update as well. I have noticed my battery draining Overnight unless it is plugged in To the charger. I have noticed once drained it takes longer to charge fully as well. I did not have any issue prior to the last update. How do you go to the previous update to fix the iPad? Apple needs to update this issue. It is as if it is not shutting down when in sleep mode or off
