Macbook Pro not detecting full SSD capacity

Hello Guys, i have installed a used 256gb SSD to my Macbook Pro 2012. Now when I boot my system via recovery disk it shows on 8.13 GBs and not 256. I tried booting it with the old SATA as external drive; it worked but now i am unable to see the installed SSD at all. Disk utility is only showing external drives. No idea what to do. please help.

If you installed the SSD internally it is not being recognized— did you also change out the SATA cable? This is a known point of failure.
