Hello - I just got a new MacBook Pro 13", 2 Ghz i5, 16gb RAM. Trying the Final Cut Pro demo and even on the most basic of projects I'm getting repeated beach balls. Wondering if there is something I have setup wrong? Could it be a hardware problem? Catalina issue?
There was a post that said this might be fixed in the macOS 10.15.6 update. Have you tried that?
It was not. The advisor I spoke to said to try that yesterday and it didn’t. I relayed those results to them.
The senior advisor said it's possible the time machine migrations could have messed up with the core video applications. Hence them mentioning a full clean install. Sigh.
You don’t migrate core applications. The system installs them, and they can’t be replaced except by an update.

Trimming - traditional spinning ball in all directions (only computer restart temporarily helps). So10.5.6 helps with nothing.
Agreed, it seems worse in 10.5.6 for me as well
