iPad Pro Magic Keyboard trackpad suddenly stopped working.

The keyboard and trackpad were working fine up until a couple of hours ago. I put the iPad to charge (already in the Magic Keyboard case) and then I picked it up recently to use. All of a sudden the trackpad wasn’t responding. There was no mouse on the screen. There is no response on the screen when I click on the trackpad. The keys on the keyboard itself were working fine and were responsive, but it’s just the trackpad that isn’t working. I tried hard-resetting and soft-resetting my iPad, as well as cleaning the smart connectors on both the keyboard and the iPad, still no changed result.

I had the same problem, 2018 iPad Pro running 13.5.1 with the Magic Keyboard. Removing the both the iPad and the USB-C power cord from the keyboard (i.e. no power going to the Magic Keyboard from any source) seems to reset things enough to get it to start working again. I’ve had to do this twice in the past week, including just now.

I agree - it should not have this problem and they should have fixed it by now. I bought the Magic keyboard when they starting shipping last spring 2020 and use it with my iPad Pro 11 (2nd gen). I really like the quality feel of the keyboard and trackpad - EXCEPT for the re-occuring problem with the Trackpad not responding. After doing the workaround It happens to me repeatedly within 2ish days and then I have to do the workaround again. I called Apple twice about this, restored the iPad with them, and they replaced the keyboard with a new one, and I continue to have the problem intermittently. I have been dealing with this since last spring hoping that SW updates or Firmware updates might fix it, but not yet. I believe it is either a HW problem with the keyboard (and I may have got another keyboard that has the problem) OR a combination of the keyboard with some iPads (only a small percentage of iPad/Magic keyboard owners have this problem). I wish I had a second iPad to test to see if the problem goes away with another iPad Pro. Frustrating! I will be calling Apple yet again about it.

I have the same problem. No trackpad functionality and the trackpad options don’t even show up in the Settings. I spent a lot of $$$ on this and now it doesn’t even work. I’ve tried the unplugging the power and removing the tablet from the keyboard simultaneously and it doesn’t work. Not sure how some people have claimed it is a guaranteed fix. Not true in my experience.

It is possible that your case is something more than what most are experiencing. I have not seen any post that "guarantees" a fix just a "workaround". In many cases the workaround is only temporary and requires repeating the workaround every few days, perhaps it doesn't work for your case even temporarily. In any case, Apple should address it - and so far it has not. Call Apple - if you find a fix let us know.

I have thought this issue was gone for the past 2 months or so. Just took my iPad off the keyboard to do some art this morning and when I reconnected it, no trackpad connection. Not sure if the keyboard was working. This is f*cking garbage. I spent over $1,300 for this setup. For that much money, I could have had a nice gaming desktop, a MacBook or an incredibly nice pc laptop. I just wanted to be able to use my MFi gaming controller again, which only works with iOS. I should have found another solution.

Wow second time posting a reply...so I did the unplug, unhook, disconnect, and said forget it...a few hours later I picked it up again and it works. What happened? Perhaps I was User error, a real issue, or an anomaly connected to the Big Bang theory, whatever happened I have a fully functioning keyboard now with my iPad. Thanks for taking the time.
