Shut down your computer, connect the device, then start the computer. See if iTunes will detect the device to restore it. If you put the device in DFU mode correctly then the screen should be blank. DFU mode may workaround the freeze on connection problem.

How frustrating. I'm sure that you should be able to get one of the methods to work to restore it. If your machine won't do it then perhaps a friend's might.

I tried DFU restore but nothing happens, no blank screen, also it takes a while to restart and the progress bar with the OK to disconnect screen also loads slow, can i try to format it with HP usb tool in disk mode?
Ok so i tried any other method but not the DFU somethings changed at the ipod, it says 0kb free 0kb used and it wont freeze when i go into settings, can i format it using a hackintosh beacuse i dont own a mac and my friend doesnt have macs, i only have a hackintosh.
So i plugged in the ipod when the computer was closed it went to itunes but the ipod wasn t there it is just in windows explorer. I tried formatting with win explorer but when i click on format nothing happens, the window appears after i disconnect the ipod, i will try with another cable.
I already did that .Could the previous owner used the ipod on mac and in windows freaks out? I even downgraded to a older version of itunes, the same results. Can it work on a power mac cuz i have one in the basement
Ok ill try to disable any antivirus. Even the defender. I mean it worked perfectly till yesterday when i wanted to put a daft punk album on it and disconnecting it accidentaly. The iPod has never been dropped or water damaged. An iflash card is on the way, maybe i will work that way.
I'm afraid I don't know what else to suggest. As long as the drive hasn't failed completely and the stats aren't off the charts one of those methods typically works. Windows to Mac and back again maybe the one you need.
