I deleted all my featured photos too. They are now completely gone and my widget is just black. I’ve restarted my phone several times, the featured folder has not returned. Why would I want a computer selecting my photos and they don’t even choose from my favorites? Can someone help me get these back?

“If you get a featured story on the news or a feature display in a shop, it's the shop or the newspaper that gets to decide what's featured.” Very true, and since these are our phones and photos it would make sense to allow us to choose the photos to be featured, as of now it makes the photo widget pretty much useless. I’m sure some of the 3rd party photo frame apps will add widget support, you can add them to the today view screen already. As of now these are very watered down versions of android widgets and kind of useless.

Came here as I figured there must be an obvious answer to this. The photo widget is great but I may not want all manner of personal pics being showcased on my main Home Screen.

and can’t believe the answer is ‘tough’. In this era of personal customisation it’s laughable that Apple thought this approach was a good one, and frankly any Business Analyst or Dev worth their salt would have raised this as a major omission in functionality.

yes it may have been like it for years but this is the first time the photo widget has been even vaguely usable to the masses.

Apple should fix this gap ASAP, otherwise the photo widget will be as useless as a widget that displays random pics from the net regardless of users taste.

Genuinely surprised at this.

Okay I figured it out! You have to download the app “Widgetsmith” then click on whatever widget size then click on the icon twice then you scroll to the bottom of the options and click photos allow it to connect to all photos the. You click the widget and choose select cover and there you can choose

Widgetsmith seems to require in-app purchases. Did you need to purchase something to be able to do what you are describing?

I agree. Completely useless not being able to control the photos. A lot of people are bringing up widget apps. That isn’t the answer, I I never thought about having photos on home page like that I just want the standard iPhone app to be functional, that means having some control. Hopefully apple are seeing this and a future update will correct something that is completely useless but a good idea of done properly.

Hi, I know this is so late to the chat but I was trying to work this out as well. I managed to work how to do it. Not through Apple but through a specific app. If you go onto photo stream and create a new album of all the photos you would like to be included in the widget. Then, download an app called “Widgetsmith”. Once downloaded, you can create a widget of either a small, medium or large size. When doing this, click on ‘default widget’, scroll down to the “custom” section and select “photos in album”. Then select the album you have just created in your photo stream. Click save once that is done and come out of that app. To add the widget to the Home Screen, press the plus arrow at the top of the screen when you are editing your page, search for widgetsmith, select it and then click on the size widget you chose. It should appear. I hope this helps !! X

I had this problem too, and I was unable to find a solution after looking for literally hours, what I ended up doing is downloading Pinterest and creating a board with only the pictures that I’d like to appear in my Home Screen, I then replaced the gallery widget with a Pinterest shortcut widget and it displays all of my favorite photos
