iPad screen rotates after unlock

I’ve only found other other person mentioning this issue (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251196700). Every iPad I’ve had in the past couple of years has done this eventually. 2 different iPad Pros, 2 iPad Minis. I use the iPad Pros with keyboards, so they are always in landscape mode when I unlock them. After unlocking, the screen starts in landscape, and within a few seconds rotates to portrait mode. If I open an app after unlocking, it opens in landscape. It’s not a huge deal, but it is weird, and I’m hoping there’s a permanent fix. Resetting settings might work for a little bit, but eventually the behavior will show up again. Example here: https://youtu.be/VFnqefUBV6A

One potential possibility that might explain this behaviour is if your iPad is horizontal on a flat surface...

When horizontal, the iPad accelerometer cannot determine which way is “up” in relation to your chosen screen orientation. When waking from sleep, the iPad will attempt to determine “screen up” in relation to its current position. If the iPad is tilted, such as when using an easel or Apple Smart/Magic keyboard, the accelerometer can instantly determine “up” in relation to the current screen orientation - and rotate accordingly.

When placed horizontally and waking from sleep, most times, the screen orientation (Landscape/Portrait) will be preserved from the previous session prior to sleeping. From experience, I can confirm that this is not always the case.

I hope this provides some helpful insight into the phenomenon that you describe.
