Error message with "Cannot contact reCAPTCHA. Check your connection and try again" on MacBook Pro Mojave

I consistently get this error trying to log into a financial site, which prevents me from accessing it. This happens both with Safari and Chrome, but it does NOT happen with my Mac Mini, also running Mojave. Previously I tried the proxy reset members have mentioned, and it worked but only once. Does anyone have any guidance on this?

Had a mix-up between two different ASC user topics; yours and another!

Here's part of what went elsewhere, should've been here; may be helpful:

You should see where it may exist in your macOS; if you had Cisco - AnyConnect

which was in your previous product(s) were listed, and work on removal of them.

This appeared in your pastebin report from EtreCheck. And EtreCheck may be able

to remove it; and it's NOT part of the Mac system. And could be removed one way

or another. ~ There's also a manual uninstall process for this 'Cisco - AnyConnect'.

• VPN, CISCO AnyConnect, Uninstalling on a Mac | uillinois.edu - (instructions)

https://answers.uillinois.edu/illinois/page.php?id=78267#:~:text=From%20the%20Finder%20go%20to,instructions%20to%20uninstall%20VPN%20program

The power issues with your Mac are mostly due to the battery condition; and remove

"Cisco - AnyConnect" items in your Mac system. Also could be other bad actors in OS.

There are two sets of instructions, to see if Cisco folder exists; find Uninstall Anyconnect

double-click to start uninstall process; and follow instructions to uninstall VPN. OR: use

the 'manual uninstall' as shell script from Terminal. See link to "vpn cisco anyconnect."

Note: MIT also has helpful Cisco optional removal instructions beneath 'manual' uninstall

http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/display/mitcontrib/Cisco+Anyconnect+Manual+uninstall+Mac+OS

(The fact EtreCheck report mentioned this content in your macOS, it may need removed;

not sure if EreCheck removes items such as this; may have to use uninstall in Cisco itself.)

Sorry for mis-post to another user-question; this was just re-located, should've been here.

Could be useful or maybe not! ~ A day late and a dollar short!

Take care & happy trails!🙂

There were several areas that were not visible in your EtreCheck report

due to fact the settings did not allow it to look where they were hiding;

change those and re-run the application to note the differences. And

check what else this tool can do. (BTW: Enable 'Full Disk' Access.)

• Using EtreCheck to Troubleshoot Potential Mac Issues - Apple Community

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250000632

However there is also evidence the issues may be resolved by use

of free version Malwarebytes for Mac; downloads from their site.

Both these tools were developed by fellow ASC participants; & are recommended.

Good luck in all that you do!🌻🍀

PS: search pointed to several items with this same Error message.

Some suggest 'cisco Anyconnect' has some bearing; other had issue

with VPN and others after upgrade to Catalina; it's 'out there.'

My configurations across four macs do not have this issue.

None of the results from duckduckgo search pointed to an exact

cause that I could suggest as resolution of your error message.

One from Apple Community:

Cannot contact reCAPTCHA. Check your conn… - Apple Community

[ full search terms, covers more than your issue:

https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=Error+message+with+%22Cannot+contact+reCAPTCHA.+Check+your+connection+and+try+again%22+macOS&ia=web ]

However I'd suggest checking into Cisco and AnyConnect; I've

nothing of theirs in my systems. ~ And some extensions. too?

Good luck & happy computing!🌻

Been a few hours since you posted last pastebin item; while I'm uncertain what you

need to do, within EtreCheck to remove the most likely suspects; I've had no issues

with most things in my Macs. ~ Mine get EtreCheck & Malwarebytes for Mac 'scans'

yet never find anything that isn't supposed to be there.

And so cannot advise which could be a problem; although did ask another ASC

member to look in, they're a few time zones (and several thousands/miles) away

so they're likely not active or online now. ~ It's near 11:30PM here, in my location.

The few items I'd viewed as suspect, may not be critical; but you'd use EtreCheck

to remove them; it has 'ability to put them in containment' for further disposition.

And the malwarebytes for mac does well, for what it can.

Take care & good night from AK!🌙🌟🌓
