Connecting 2018 MacMini to 37" HD TV

I have a 2018 MacMini. Connected via HDMI to my 27" computer monitor, the images are amazing. I needed a bigger monitor for music production. I picked up a 37" Visio HD TV. I plug the Mac into it and the screen is larger, but it's super fuzzy. I've tried both 720 and 1080 resolution on the mac. Nothing seems to help. The TV is fine with AppleTV or some other input. What am I missing?

It appears (no pun intended) that your mini and HD TV are not syncing properly for the resolution you are looking for. The HDMI port on your mini is a native 2.0 HDMI connection. That means it can support the following output resolutions:

  • 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz (FHD 16:9)
  • 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz (4K UHD 16:9)
  • 4096 x 2160 @ 60Hz (DCI 4K 19:10)

You may have to adjust your HD TV's to match one of those.
