My computer only mirrors on a second monitor

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13-inch. I’ve connected a second monitor, but it only mirrors the main screen. I cannot get it to work as extended “second” screen. There is no option in my display settings for arrangement. Any advice?

Display Settings - No option to Extend Display but Only Mirroring option is available I am not seeing any option as 'Extended Display' as part of dropdown under Display settings to use My external monitor as extended display. Able to see only 'Mirroring' option. I am using MacBook Pro (2021 Model) with macOS Monterey version 12.4.

Extend display for two monitors on macbook air m2 ventura I want to extend my display to two monitors, one is using VGA and the other is with HDMI. Both monitors are working but they display a duplicate of the same screen. The MacBook only detects both monitors as one. How can I make them separate and extended instead?
