Deleting a user account from Catalina

I need to create a separate user account on my wife's MacBook Pro, and i did so as an admin. That user account is no longer needed, and I want to delete it from her computer. Unfortunately, when i go to users and groups, whether with her admin account or mine, I cannot delete after clicking the lock to make changes. What am i missing?

Deleting admin user on MacBook Pro I had one admin user and the guest user, but I need to give this MacBook to a colleague. I tried creating a new admin user, but when I click the unlock in Users & Settings, the original admin remains greyed out so I can’t select it to delete. The new admin user is the top of the list; the old admin user is under. Suggestions please?

Can't delete a user from users and groups on Catalina Hey all, I am having some issues I was hoping you all could help with. I purchased a late 2012 Mac mini running Catalina from a shop that refurbishes them. It came with an account called "user" as admin with no password. I created a new account for myself and cannot seem to delete the "user" account. I go to users and groups, unlock the pad lock, select the "user" and hit the (-). it comes up with a prompt to type in the users password and I hit enter as there is no password on that account. the pop up goes away but the account remains. I have also followed the steps to go into the Director Utility and delete it that way but it also did not work. I found the user, hit the minus, and it remains. I also tried to create a password for the account and it won't let me. Any ideas? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

You can boot in safe mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac), then delete user account (Delete a user or group on Mac).

Turns out further research yielded the fact that you can't delete a user who's logged in. So I logged out and completed the delete process. Thanks for your help.

Of course! I guess I thought that went without saying, sort of like you can't reboot unless an app can be quit.
