iPad via HDMI to monitor, no sound

Hi all I have the newer iPad (A1893) and I tried connecting it to an external 4K LG monitor.

The video works fine but I can’t get the audio to play out of the iPad. Which is frustrating because I got the Apple HDMI adapter for this.

What’s weird is FaceTime will play back audio via the iPad while connected to the monitor but not Zoom, YouTube etc.

Has anyone found a workaround to this?

Trying to enable this so my kid who is doing remote school doesn’t have to stare down at the small iPad screen all day.

On your iPad - pull down the control center, click the little “audio broadcast” icon (triangle with waves emulating from it) in the playback control box, and click on “iPad” to force the sound and mic to be from the iPad

The icon won’t appear when you’re not connected to any additional sound output device, FYI.

Happy 2021 all. Hope this solution helps.

Had a iPad Air 4 connecting to a 4K HDMI monitor using Belkin USB-C to HDMI adaptor and Belkin HDMI cables purchased from Apple store.

Sound works well with AirPods Pro. And my wife and I also tried connecting 2 AirPods Pro to the iPad and it works perfectly as well.

Just bring the 2nd AirPods Pro near and follow the iPad on screen instruction and you would have 2 AirPods Pro connected easily.

Sharing a screenshot of the 2nd AirPods Pro being shared.

hope this solve the problem.

I have an external USB-C hub where I have connected an HDMI monitor, an Ethernet LAN , an external USB HUB and USB external speakers. While with my MacBook Pro I can choose which device I can direct the audio to, and I can reach directly the USB speakers, with the iPad Pro 11 2021 this is impossible. The USB speakers are invisible to the audio driver. With the above solutions I can only choose a generic “dock” connector (which does’t reach the USB speakers) or others bluetooth and Wi-Fi speakers…

I now have discovered that I can reach the USB speakers from the iPad if I connect them to external USB HUB and not to the USB-C hub.

Weird.
