Hi RMBergen, I spent hours and hours trying to get this fixed - it seemed better for a short while but now my recorded programs are practically unwatchable. It's worse with fast forwarding in my case, but it also stops randomly and jumps back to an earlier point in the program, then will not fast forward.
I did get help from Twitter yesterday: @Ask_Spectrum. They were very quick to answer and researched the problem. they said it is a known issue with the cloud DVR that they are working on: "a known issue with the fast forward or "scrubbing" function cloud DVR with Apple TV. "
If you use Twitter, try reaching them that way.
Good luck because I know it's a very annoying problem!

Just had the same issue on the Apple TV device connected to my Samsung tonite. I was watching one channel and around 9:30 pm I tried to switch channels. The Spectrum app quit working. All other apps working fine. Rebooted Apple and router. No dice. Spectrum app working on Android and Roku. Called Spectrum. The tech said this is a known issue just reported today with Apple devices. Had me uninstall and reinstall the App. Still didn't work. He did say they have a team working on it. Fortunately I have the App installed directly on my Samsung so that will be my backup in the meantime.
I watched football and the nascar yesterday (which was the true test) and I had no problems.
The forced Apple TV reboot I did last Thursday fixed it.
Not sure who (Apple TV or Spectrum) was at fault, but working great now.
I hope this helps you.
Goto preferences and choose sign out then sign back in choose sign in automatically. Now works perfectly
Have you tried contacting Spectrum about this? As it is their connection, their service, and their app.
I forced an Apple TV software Update (even though I have automatic updates Turned on), and Spectrum app is now working better.
I’m not sure for how long.
I’ll update my status after further viewing.
Ok so what you’ll need to do is sign in and out but press sign in automatically because I had the same probelm
I did the Apple update tonight as well and Spectrum app was unresponsive so I went to my phone...same! Call Spectrum and the recording stated that the were have Spectrum App issues and working to resolve...10 minutes later and all is well
Last month it let me.
This month after the problem came back, it wouldn’t.
Originally I went forward with it by clicking update even though I had automatic updates turned on.
My most recent success was with a router and Ethernet upgrade to cat 6 cable.
I don’t know if that’s what fixed it this time. But I’m working great now.
Yes you will. I also have the Gold package and everything is there. The gal at Spectrum, when I called to downgrade my service told me about the Apple 4K receiver in place of a cable box. I pay Spectrum $7.99 per month for the Apple...which I will own in 23 months versus the $6.99 for the cable box. The gal I spoke with before that call, was the one that told me about the Roku's. I switched to the Roku's first on two of my "dumb" TV's...and saw that it worked. Then I got the Apple 4K. As others have indicated in this forum, from time to time there has been a problem with the Apple devices and the Spectrum app, but Spectrum is aware of issues and always fixes it within 24 hours. When that occurs, though, because I have the Spectrum app directly on my one smart tv, I can use that as a backup. I love the Apple 4K, too, since I got 12 months of the free Apple TV subscription, so I got to see their original programming. It's only $4.99 thereafter, so I will consider it. When the Disney channel got Hamilton, I subscribed to Disney + for one month at $6.99...watched Hamilton and caught up on all the Marvel and Star Wars movies I hadn't seen, then I dropped it. Because of my Spectrum subscription, I get HBO Max for free, as well as Peacock, the NFL app, and others. I discovered I can watch the Red Zone channel for free on my NFL app on Sundays. When I think of paying all that money for 3 cable boxes...this is so much better. There are times when the entire Spectrum Network is out in multiple locations and the Spectrum App isn't working at all. When that happens, I switch to one of my other Apps for entertainment, or I have a small rabbit ear antenna that gets the local channels.
We are having the same problem. We can get all the channels with iPad and 2nd TV (Samsung) not connected to Apple TV (apparently with Spectrum, a Vizio TV must have Roku or Apple). We are streaming with Spectrum. I saw the same complaint with another user. Our Apple TV is up to date.
it does not appear the issue is with Spectrum...
The playback is terrible. It freezes, the sounds drops out, and it does this weird thing where it jumps back to earlier points in the program. It isn't even possible to watch the program. It won't fast forward even when I stop the video first. Won't rewind.
I've had it for about a week and it is completely unsatisfactory.
I need an Apple tech support person.
The streaming is great, no problems with playback or FF/rewind.
The spectrum app and the ATV4k, finally bit it. It’s unwatchable. Random screen cutouts, followed by a complete hdmi loss. Unplugging hdmi and plugging it back in works for a while, but the problem reoccurs. It’s only the spectrum app. No other app does that.
the other oddball thing that happens, when I go from the ATV homepage into the spectrum app, my tv does this weird “no signal” thing where it appears as tho the HDMI connection is being “reset”. The same thing occurs when I go OUT of the spectrum app back to the ATV homepage. Almost like it doesn’t like the 4K settings being turned on (my tv reports HDR when I’m NOT in the spectrum app)
could having the ATV set to enable HDR be the culprit?
I got rid of all my cable boxes. I have an Apple 4K box and two Rokus on the other TVs. The one TV in the LR with the Apple 4K is a smart TV and I have the Spectrum App directly on that TV as well (if needed as back up). Spectrum channels are all there. No more cable boxes. Saves me a chunk of change.
I have also had constant problems with the Spectrum app on Apple TV. Frequently it goes into a completely b&w pixelated screen(snowy) and it can’t be fixed without unplugging the Apple TV box as the menus to get out of the app isn’t available -the remote is basically worthless. The app works perfectly on Samsung smart TVs. So it’s clearly an apple issue and they don’t seem to care about correcting it. Going to get rid of my Apple TV box!
