Chronic email delivery outgoing

For the last two months since upgrading to Catalina 10.15.6 on a MBP ((13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3) with internet speed of 120mbs without VPN and 65-70 with VPN, outgoing mail chronically stalls: computer stats: 3.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

I have to restart the computer almost every time I want to send mail, whether with or without VPN.

Any possible solutions? Perhaps it is the configuration of smtp that I have wrong.

Incoming mail is normal.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!


It sounds like you are having issues with outgoing mail on your MacBook Pro. Is this happening in more than one email account? If only one, which email account is it? (For your privacy, only reply with what is after the @ sign in your email address). Are you able to send emails from this same account on other devices besides the MacBook Pro? If so, you may need to verify the email settings with your email service provider and update them in the Mail account preferences. If the issue persists, try deleting the email account and adding it again.
