'Cannot load message' error in mail

10/7/2020 I just got off the phone with apple tech support. They said this is not coming up as a known issue, and that it is probably an issue with my Dell laptop? I have been using Icloud mail on this laptop just fine up until about 2 weeks ago. Now every message generates the "Cannot load message" error. I have also tried using Chrome and Edge (Safari is no longer supported on Windows) so I don't think it's a browser issue? I know apple & microsoft do not play well together, but then apple needs to stop advertising that their programs/apps work on windows!

Every time I log in to my Icloud, I get a message asking if I want to download Icloud for Windows. I would be willing to use up my precious memory if I knew this would solve the issue. Does anyone run the Icloud for Windows, or do you just log in to icloud.com/mail to check your email?

Also, I am able to check mail on my Iphone without a problem.

I have iCloud for Windows and I do get the error message. In fact, I've had iCloud for Windows for quite a while (on both sides of my recent clean install of everything).

As far as I know, iCloud for Windows does not, in itself, open Mail, Photos, or anything else. I also use iCloud.com to open my Apple Mail on Windows.

Same for me also, it's reassuring that someone else is having the same issue as I know it's not just me. I have the same issue on all of my Windows machines using the new version of Microsoft Edge (chromium). I don't use any other browser on Windows.

I'm just happy to find out that it wasn't something I was doing wrong or my system became corrupt. Knowing that others are experiencing this same issue is consoling. Hopefully Apple will find a fix, soon.

Same problem here. Started a couple weeks ago. It happens on my Macbook and my PC in Chrome. This webmail is garbage. I would be on Gmail but everyone has my .me address and it would be a huge pain to switch. Please, Apple, do something to make the email service better.

I have the same issue. I have a brand new HP Spectre computer (about 5 weeks old) and had the problem start 2-3 weeks ago. I have tried Chrome and Edge to resolve. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the icloud app. Also glad to know it is an Apple problem and that it is now on their radar. Wanted to add another known issue to the thread so they know how widespread it is. It is really frustrating.

I have the same problem with a "Can not load message" showing up when I use Mail. Like you, it seems to have appeared after my work office loaded one of its many MS Outlook updates onto my iMac. That's probably the source, but nobody seems to know how to correct it.

The customer service rep I'm working with has been super helpful - she calls back when she says she will, tells me what's happening, etc. So far there isn't much happening except the engineers are working on it. She goes through various settings, etc. that have been suggested to fix it, but so far everything has been fine on my end...and the problem persists. Fingers crossed they'll work it out soon.

I have had the same problem for several weeks. It has been improving on my Macbook with Safari but unsueable on my Windows box with Firfox...until today. I am on my windows box and everything seems to be working as before. Yay! I hope this is the same for all of you.

Someone said they thought it was fixed. It is NOT fixed. More aggravating than ever!!!! Apple, can you PLEASE sit down with someone, ANYONE and see the frustration of just trying to read and respond to email??? I cannot even believe this is still going on. You would think email was some new technology that no one could figure out.

Totally not fixed. Tried to log in to icloud.com on updated Firefox on a brand new Mac Air with Catalina. Right off the bat, cannot load message. There are no full cache or cookies or any corp fire wall on the new machine. Seriously irritated! Come on Apple. Cough some info before we all go away.

It seemed better for about one day, now the problem is back. Given the duration of the issue, and the lack of resolve by Apple, I’m starting to route more email and content to other servers. Like any market share issue, it’s easy to lose it and very hard to get it back.

I've had this for more than 2 months - frustrating thing is I'm on a mac (at work), running mac software and trying to get emails from iCloud - something Apple shouldn't have a problem with!

I'm finding when I log on in the morning the first 10+ emails load fine, then the error message starts intermitently popping up and the problem lasts nearly all day.

Apple servers surely?? This is basics to host email!

I have a very similar experience on a Windows computer. I don’t know if it is because it is a new day, the cache and buffers are empty, the servers, or what.

But Apple needs to find out why and get out a fix. It is terrible that iCloud is less helpful than Outlook or Google.
