'Cannot load message' error in mail

When I open my mail on icloud.com in windows, I am able to view emails at first. But after one or two mails I get this pop up with the error 'Cannot load message'. If I click it away and reload the mail I can read it however. This popup makes it impossible to read my emails. It happens on both chrome and microsoft edge browsers. Chrome gives the notification 'not secure' for icloud.com.

Hope someone can help!

Windows, Windows 6

Just like everyone else, this problem started for me a couple weeks ago. I only use the web-based mail client on a Windows 10 PC, using Chrome. (I have no issues on my iPhone, iPad, or the Mail app on my Macs. Just web mail on a PC.) It was working correctly for an hour or two this morning and then this afternoon, back to the same old alert messages. This is on a Mobile Me address that I've had for at least 10 years now, and never had issues with the web-based mail client on a PC until recently... very annoying. :(

Talked to Apple again this week (has this been going on forever now???). They captured some data when I replicated the problem. That will go to the engineers to see if they can fix the issue. Seems slightly absurd how long this is taking, but I credit Apple customer service with always calling when they say they will and genuinely working on the issue.

Will updated again after I hear anything back.

No fix here yet, and it seems to be getting worse (happening more often). Isn’t it far past time that Apple acknowledges the problem and says what if anything it’s doing about it?

FYI, I’ve been with Apple since the Apple II and between myself and family have owned well over 20 Apple products from Airs to IMacs to watches. This is not the Apple I’ve known for so long.

Hello everyone - I got mine fixed! WHOOP!!

I went to Apple's help pages where there's an option to choose for them to call you back. I opted for that and got a callback almost immediately. The lady stayed on the phone with me almost 45mins troubleshooting and solved it by:

• using Apple's built-in "Mail" email software on my iMac and Macbook Air.

• it also worked in Safari initially with no error messages, but now they have started to pop up there occasionally, so I just stick with "Mail".

That was about a week ago and it's been working OK 100% of the time in "Mail" with no annoying pop-ups.

Hope it works as well for everyone else!

I agree, but as I'd waited so long for Apple to do something about it, I just got fed up of waiting and decided to take it into my own hands. None of us should have to do this of course, but I just couldn't bear all the error messages anymore, so had to find a solution!

I should add, the 45mins call was partly that long as she troubleshot 2 devices with me AND helped me resolve another issue I had with my laptop.

I'm glad you are able to access your email again, but what you've described is not really a fix for the problem others are having. It is a workaround at best. The true problem is the web interface to iCloud mail. There are cases where the solution they provided you will not work. For example, if you access your personal iCloud mail account from a work (or other) network that blocks outbound connections to foreign mail servers, you will be able to read mail, but not send it. And it is possible, though less likely, that those networks block inbound traffic from foreign mail servers which would render Apple's solution completely useless. "Fixing" a problem by recommending the use of an entirely different product is kind of a cop-out if you ask me.

Like I said, I'm glad this solution is working for you but there is still a larger problem for Apple to fix.

Just FYI....I pulled the trigger on the Big Sur upgrade last night. The problem with iCloud mail still exists in Chrome and FireFox browsers. Safari, surprise surprise, seems to work well with iCloud mail, though it does take an unusually long time to initially load the iCloud landing page.
