Cannot Save Edited Contact in MS Outlook on Windows Laptop-Don't Have Permission

I edited contacts in my outlook (icloud contact) and when I saved it, I got an error message "Your changes cannot be saved because you don't have permission to modify some or all of the items in this folder. Do you want to save a copy of this item in the default folder for the item.". I am not sure what happened and need some help. Thanks.

I have the same problem. A Microsoft update broke it. Until they push down a fix, here is a temporary workaround:

1. When you are asked if you want to save the revised contact in another folder, answer yes.

2. Go back to your iCloud contact folder and delete the contract you wanted to modify.

3. Go to the folder where the revised contact was saved and move it to your iCloud contact folder.

4. If you do not first delete the old contact from the iCloud contact folder, the new one will not move over.

Yes. Thanks for everyone's input. I believed it was fixed. It was the iTune. Even thought my iTune version is still 12.10.8.5 on my PC (Windows 10, 64 bit), I reauthorize the PC and appears the Outlook Contact is back to functioning. I am able to edit and save on PC and sync to iCloud and Apple Devices. I was not be able to find the iTune version 12.10. 9.3 as Mr. jmscott45 said in his reply. But anyway, it finally fixed and worked now. Get our fingers crossed and hope nothing else will pop up in the future.

Thanks to everyone. I may assume the case is closed.

I HAD the same contacts problem with windows outlook 365 and icloud all latest versions

Last night I had an issue authorising another computer on iTunes

The chat tech advised me to go to iTunes > Account > View My account (logon) the press "Deathorise All" which apparaently is a deeper reset of data in Appel'sdatabase than deauthorising each individally. The tech also mentioned something about listing devices in icloud, but I cold not find that... which surprised him...maybe just me...but it made me think there is some connection between icloud and itunes

Now I have reauthorised two windows computers and logged back into icloud on each

I can now use icloud contacts as intended: Able to create and delete and edit entries directy in the icloud contacts in outlook on both computers and on the iphone contacts and see the data synchronise accross the three devices.

Caveat: Maybe coincidental. I am no expert an any of this.

Add me to the list.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled Office 365 (32bit and 64bit versions); same problem. I've uninstalled/reinstalled iCloud for Windows 10 (I'm running Windows 10 Pro, Version 2004 OS Build 19041.508); same problem. If you "uncheck" the Outlook selection under iCloud settings (meaning no longer syncing to iCloud), I can modify and change contacts with no problem (that means the copy of iCloud contacts on my local PC drive). As soon as you re-select iCloud Outlook Sync, the error again occurs. I can however make changes to the calendars without the permissions error.

So......to me it appears to definitely be an Apple iCloud sync problem! Solution???

I also did similar things but no luck as well. If you run Outlook as an Administrator then you can save the changes on PC but you will see "Wrong Password" on the Sync Button and it will not upload to iCloud to update the contact. It appeared only happened to Contact, not calendar and others. E-mail and photo syncing are still fine. Only Outlook Contact from PC to iCloud has problems. This all just happened starting from beginning of the week I believed after MS Office updates.

I called Apple and they told me to contact Outlook and Outlook said it is Apple. I guess we are caught in the middle ...... again .....

I'm having the same issue for my home and office computer, which are synced via icloud, both using Office 365 on Windows 10 Pro. I attempted to have a Microsoft Tech resolve the issue for me, they couldn't fix the issue, and blamed the issue on being an apple add-in issue. I called Apple, who said "Absolutely Not! It's a Microsoft Office issue, they must fix it." So it seems that each are blaming one another and leaves the issue unresolved, and nowhere to turn. Two final point, I am able to make all changes to my contacts on my iPhoneX as Microsoft says there are no add-ins on the phone like you do on the computer. I am able to create a new contact, but the minute I save it, I am unable to make any changes to it and receive the error message.

If anyone finds out how to resolve the problem, I would love to hear how.

Below are the steps that were taken by the Microsoft Tech. However, none of these fixed the issue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-signed-out account from iCloud app

-deleted following keys that contain Apple.DAV.Addin:

Thank you for your input. However, I have tried that method before but it won't solve the problem. I was able to edited and saved the contact by logged-in as administrator for Outlook from PC. However, it will not sync to iCloud, therefore, it will not update Apple devices (iPhone or iPAD). It only stayed on local Windows machine and you will see "Wrong Password" on the Sync button on Outlook Menu. If you closed the outlook and log-in normally, then you will receive the message that your changes on the contact cannot be saved and will delete the contact. Then, you lost the contact from your outlook on Windows PC. It appeared most of the user having the same issues pointing to Windows Update cause the problem because it all happened after the last time windows updates and cause Apple's add-in permission was not allowed by Windows. I hope they can recognize and fix it quick. Thanks.

Here we go people. . . . I called Microsoft about this problem, was on line for over an hour Microsoft Case - - Microsoft told me it was not their problem but it was a APPLE problem. While in Outlook, in Contacts -iCloud I would make a change to a contact "category" or a change to a contact "address" I would end up with a "NOTICE" that said "Server Denied Operation (HTTP 403 Forbidden)". So I clicked "ok". Then up came another Microsoft Outlook Notice that said the following; "Your changes cannot be saved because you don't have permission to modify some or all of the items in this folder. Do you want to save a copy of this item in the default folder for the item? The "default folder" I believe refers to my "Contacts - *****.net - New. Sure enough after clicking on "yes", the contact was saved to my computer Contacts - ******.net - New. So I then tried to click on the contact and move it to my Contacts - iCloud folder, it disappeared from my Contacts - ****.net - NEW, and when I clicked on Contacts - iCloud it appeared. However when I made a simple change in the contact (that I just moved) i.e. changing the category from "Austin" to "Aspen" up came the yellow triangle with the ! mark saying . . . . Server Denied Operation (HTTP 403 Forbidden).

I'm now heading back to Microsoft and see if I cant speak to a level Tier II individual to maybe have them shed some light and fix this **** problem.

Regards, GRANTAMS

No. I mean the application iTunes. It somehow affects Contacts. Beats me how but this resolved my issue.

I do not sync any phones or tablet with iTunes, just access my movies when I travel with this Win10 laptop so normally not too concerned with iTunes. iPhone & iPad are synced with MacBook Pro.

Anyway, odd as it sounds, this fixed things.
