Cannot Save Edited Contact in MS Outlook on Windows Laptop-Don't Have Permission

I edited contacts in my outlook (icloud contact) and when I saved it, I got an error message "Your changes cannot be saved because you don't have permission to modify some or all of the items in this folder. Do you want to save a copy of this item in the default folder for the item.". I am not sure what happened and need some help. Thanks.

I have the same problem. A Microsoft update broke it. Until they push down a fix, here is a temporary workaround:

1. When you are asked if you want to save the revised contact in another folder, answer yes.

2. Go back to your iCloud contact folder and delete the contract you wanted to modify.

3. Go to the folder where the revised contact was saved and move it to your iCloud contact folder.

4. If you do not first delete the old contact from the iCloud contact folder, the new one will not move over.

Try starting outlook using Run as Administrator and see if that eliminates the error. Close Outlook, Type Outlook on the start menu - when it comes up, click the V to show run as admin. Click it.

This solution does not work. I replied to the MS Diane as follows:

Thank you Diane; however it does not work. I started as you suggest using "Run an Admin).

When you open an iCloud contact in Office 365 Home Outlook version (all updates applied, latest version) and make a change, then click save, you error out with the following message:

Could not save changes to ****pany

Your changes to this item cannot be saved because server denied operation (HTTP 403 Forbidden)

then you have to force close the window/outlook using task manager.

Reopen without using Run as Admin, and error remains the same:

Your changes cannot be saved because you don't have permission to midify some or all of the items in this folder. Do you want to save a copy of this item in the default folder for the item? (Which is MSN contacts.)

Any other suggestions?

Maestro2020 - the default Contacts folder will be in the outlook data file that you have set to the “default”, which is also where your Outlook Profile information is saved. If you setup Outlook with a single email account then it will be in the Contact folder in that account. If you explicitly create a separate Outlook datafile on your local hard drive and make that your default then it will appear there. I created a separate local datafile to store email messages that I don’t need saved on my email provider’s IMAP server. Use File / Accounts and select the Data Files tab to see which is your default.

Note that the iCloud integration can NOT be the default data file because it’s an Apple formatEd container and not an Outlook PST or OST file. Having a real Apple iCloud email account is also different from the iCloud Outlook integration Add-In. So your iCloud IMAP email account could be the default - which can be confusing. Also note that you can turn on and off which Contact folders display so make sure the default one is enabled so you can see it in the Contact view.

I assume you mean iCloud for windows 10? As far as I know, iTunes has no function in Outlook accessing iCloud files.

Normally I get an automatic update, when one is available. Have opened the iCloud dialog box, don't seem to be able to find which version is running.

Would appreciate a response and a resolution given by Apple and/or Microsoft. By now it is very clear that many people have the same issue, why is there still silence from Apple/Microsoft?

Hello, NicolaasM: Surprisingly, it is iTune. My iTune version was 12.10.8.5 when I encountered Outlook Contact editing problems. But I did not receive automatic update notice for iTune. Then, I went to Microsoft Store and found iTune was listed that had an update. I clicked to update but found the version still is 12.10.8.5 after update. Then I found I need to reauthorize the PC. After the reauthorization, the Outlook Contact problem is gone and back to normal. Please try and it may help. I cannot find iTune version 12.10.9.3 as other users indicated, I assume it may be due to the PC is X64 .......
