iPhone keeps freezing after iOS 14 update

Erase and start as new a solution? Only many hours of getting it set up again. Freezes and annoyances are way preferable to that. Wait for next update.

I am backing-up and updating to 14.1, can it be worse than now??? Well, whatever, I go for it

Xr froze. No access to any apps or shutdown with buttons. PANIC. Used Siri to send WhatsApp messages and got a phone call back.

THAT seems to actually have done the trick.

I ended up talking to Apple support about the issue and they helped me with troubleshooting and such.

Thanks. It only happens sometimes and unlike others it mostly affects the settings app. The solution seems to be to hard close it, then reopen, and it’s back to normal.

Right after I answered you, my phone froze once - in the Apple discussion group, no less. I swiped it away and all good again. I believe they are beta testing 14.2 now (never saw a 14.1). Good luck....Apple always comes through in the end.

i am a little concerned about battery use. Both my phone and watch seems to be not doing as well as before. I’m in a ‘wait and see’ mode.

I’m very annoyed by this. Installed iOS 14 about three or four days ago on my 11 Max Pro. All of a sudden this morning suddenly my iPhone just kind of sputters and powers down. Now I’ve been stuck with the icon screen after multiple re-tries including with an Apple tech. Finally they said to bring it somewhere to be serviced, but because of Covid, the stores are on have very limited hours and the first appointment I can get is a week from now! And of course if I ship it to Apple, it will take 5 to 7 business days as well. I’ve been buying iPhones for something like 15 years and between this and some issues with my iMac, it just seems like Apple’s quality is going down and now their service is pretty weak (and as we all know, AppleCare ain’t cheap). I have left it based on some of the responses other people left, and all that happens is the icon stays on and then once in a while it turns off for a while and the screen goes black and then the Apple icon is back. This has been going on for about four hours.

And I’m sure it’s the same for others as well as me – this just isn’t a case with me not being able to look at the Internet or something. I have an iMac desktop and an iPad For that. But if my phone basically is a brick now, that means I’m driving out and about and should there be any emergency, I’m screwed. Also since when I have connected it to my iMac, it’s not even acknowledging the phone being connected, I have no way of knowing whether or when the battery is going to run out.

I’ve bought the latest model of iPhone for three last few years now and was anticipating buying a 12 when they’re released. But this experience is making me think it might be time to stop getting iPhones. If Apple can’t wait til their updates are actually going to work for people, maybe it’s time to stop giving them $1k a year for a phone.

I was on the phone with apple support for 1 hour yesterday for the same issues my iPhone 10 . Went through a series of steps, including a hard reset an resetting the phone. No improvement.

Downloaded ios14 onto iPhone 11 128gb the screen freezes very frequently on whatever app I am using, I have to wait about 15-30 seconds to gain some function on the screen again and shut the open app. Have closed down all apps, done hard reset, still problem remains. Wish I hadn't downloaded itnow

iPhone X here is essentially inoperable post-update to iOS 14. I can hardly do anything on the phone without it freezing and rebooting itself. Sometimes it even gets stuck in a reboot loop for a while.

This is incredibly inconveniencing. Please release a patch!

I have the iPad mini 5 and the screen has frozen at least four times today in Safari and once in gmail app. I shut it down (turn it off) and it resets.

It’s irritating. I hope it doesn’t affect the hardware.

iPhone 11 Pro Max freezing on random apps, at random times, cannot pinpoint specifics. Freezes, then somehow resets itself with little spinning wheel on black screen. Did hard reboot and did not fix. I did my update directly to 14.0.1 (bypassing 14 hoping to not deal with these bugs) Apple this phone was so expensive and we have to deal with these horrible bugs. I mean a piece of equipment that costs more than $1k with software like this? Come on Apple, you can do WAY better than this.

You’re fortunate yours resets itself. I have to turn mine completely off, and restart it. The Apple Watch is also not functioning properly since 7.0. Apple will doubtless fix these glitches soon. They always do!
