iPhone keeps freezing after iOS 14 update

My iPhone 11 pro is doing exactly the same. I’ve taken it back to the Apple shop to have it reset and they couldn’t work out what the problem was. They gave me a brand-new phone for my one-year-old iPhone 11 Pro and this phone is doing exactly the same. I would agree that it is the update 14.0.1 which is causing the problem.

i did a reset on my phone finally & I haven’t had any issues with freezing since. I believe it was a combo of the update & downloading all of the widget apps. Hopefully Apple is working on a bug fix!

My experience with 14.1 is really mixed. At the beginnings apps were working better, but the more I use it the more, things go back to the previous situation: non native apps behave erratically, sometimes finely and sometimes badly. We need either app updates or 14.1.1

My IPhone froze and would not power off. If you tried to power off it dials 911. Eventually I let it dial 911 and hung up immediately. That allowed me to restart the phone but the cops came. I took out SIM card, everything! So I turned off auto dial sos. Really nasty.

Everyone with this problem must hit social media as strongly as possible to make it known generally. Only then might Apple fix it - if they can. The easiest solution for them is to roll back to iOS 13 but they’re unlikely to take that route due to embarrassment.

I’ve had a long Twitter conversation with Apple Support over a couple of days about the problems affecting my iPhone X and iPad and those of so many other people since moving to iOS 14. Apple Support were thorough and very helpful and today ran remote diagnostics of my phone to identify whether it was a fault specific to my device.

Their response was “There were no hardware issues reported in the diagnostics. We’ve heard reports of this issue and it’s currently under review. Apple does not yet have a complete understanding of the issue, therefore, it is not possible for Apple to promise a solution or predict when any investigation will be complete. We recommend keeping your iPhone up-to-date in the meantime.”

I’m glad that they’re aware of the problem and hope that they’ll soon understand the cause and be able to offer a fix via an iOS upgrade.

My iPhone 11 did this in 14.1, 14.2 and now hopefully that Apple would fix this error - still happening in 14.3. I know it is going to happen because I open an app and instead of information populating the screen ie Currency; Stocks, Mail etc all that appears in the screen is the colour of the app and a close line at the bottom of screen. Then NOTHING works and you can’t even press on off button. After up / down Vol + on button several times black screen. Dead iPhone. After about 4 minutes there Apple start screen!! Not good for a $2k phone. I have never had these sort of errors before and a repeated mistake over 3 iOSs

its not your Apple ID that has nothing to do with it. I’ve erased and set up my 7 with a new and my old ID. Apple still haven’t resolved this issue. It seems like the ram is over clocking and causing the phone to freeze and become unusable.

It's a matter of time it will come back and haunt again. I experienced it before. I use the clear memory method, reboot doesn't work. In the end, I remove any one app that hung, and reinstall. Thereafter, all apps are working again. Will monitor for a while. It might be too early to count the chicken.

But if you've got an older phone, don't bother upgrading, you will probably still have the issue. Freezing issue applies to my iPhone 12 mini on iOS 14.4 Very frustrating that this is still happening. Hope Apple sees the number of people complaining on this forum and fixes it in iOS.

Yes, but that’s the problem - IOS14 is causing Apple apps to fail on a variety of devices. Whilst restarting is a temporary solution it is not a permanent one and shouldn’t be necessary - just like it wasn’t when running iOS 13. You’ll probably find that if an app stalls, pressing the right hand side button and then manually unlocking it again temporarily fixes it, but again, you shouldn’t have to do this regularly. The perceived value of Apple devices is that they’re of the highest quality and that Apple users don’t have to suffer problems with apps crashing and stalling that users of non-Apple devices might - which is why we self-justify spending extortionate sums of money on Apple products.

When that quality disappears, as it has since iOS 14, then we’re just mugs who pay too much money for worse than average kit.

I’ve again reported this issue to @Apple Support via Twitter and suggest you do the same. I’ve been promised tonight that the matter will be escalated within Apple Support so at least I’ll be able to explain the problem more fully.

It would be helpful if as many here as possible report the problem too so that Apple’s service desk managers have an opportunity to flag the problem as being common when they look at their call logs!

@wirelessly, I think you’ve found a temporary work around, but unfortunately not a solution. It will reoccur for you.

other temporary fixes are also a hard reset, and I find locking the screen and unlocking also helps for a while.

I wish Apple would pull their finger out and fix this.

In my experience, IOS14.5 and 14.5.1 introduce another problem in that some of my favourite, older apps no longer work at all.

Android is calling strongly!!

I have the Iphone 11 and it keeps freezing also. All apps. I have to close and reopen. Very frustrating.

IPhone 11 keeps freezing after iOS 14 update in apps, messages, receiving phone calls etc. Nothing has fixed it!
