iPhone keeps freezing after iOS 14 update
iPhone X keeps freezing with new iOS 14 update. Will freeze in any app or even sitting idle and will go to black apple screen and restart. Factory reset did not fix it.

It is also worthwhile for you to contact Apple Support via Twitter and report the problem. They seem to take more notice there
I seem to have found a solution
For the problem on both my X and 12 mini on iOS 14.5.1
if I close apps it seems to recover. I suspect there is a memory leak or some other memory management issue
Try to be patient as it might still be updating behind the ‘scene.’ Read the other comments. Many of us had the same problem that seems to fix itself after a while-depending, I guess, on the number of apps and information on your phone. Good luck.
My iPhone X is still struggling since downgrading from iOS 13 to 14. Firstly it stalled regularly and the battery life was much worse than before. 14.1 solved the battery life, and 14.2 helped with the stalling, but the problem still exists. About twice a day it slows considerably - I’ve noticed it particularly when in Safari though today it’s happened when I was using Messages.
On mine, the screen Zooms in and out, apps launch randomly and key presses operate them - it’s like watching a ghost at work! This presumably occurs because some rogue processes drag the processor to a halt and my frustrated key presses are interpreted wrongly. Re-booting the phone helps temporarily but everything stalls again after a few hours.
I’ve wiped the phone, performed a factory reset, and rebuilt from backup but the problem still exists. My iPad suffers too, though not as regularly as the phone. I didn’t have a problem with either on ios13 - they just worked, which is what you expect from Apple. No more though, both provide a very frustrating experience. My first Android phone almost 10 years ago was much better than this!
ios14 offers no advantages to me and many disadvantages. Is it possible to downgrade to ios13?
This sounds very similar to my specific problem. I’ve had the same issue with 3 different iPhones now — two iPhone 8’s and now my iPhone 11. The problem actually seems to get WORSE with each subsequent update. At random times, apps on my phone will inexplicably freeze and then apps will not open. Weirdly, however, it’s not all apps. Some apps, like Twitter and Facebook, seem unaffected, while other apps like Google Chrome and YouTube become unusable.
Doing a hard restart on the phone used to clear up the issue, but now even that doesn’t seem to work as I just have to wait until it decides it wants to work again. My metric for whether or not I know my phone apps are open again is to tap “Password and Security” in my Apple ID settings, and whenever it decides to actually load, 95% of the time that means my apps are working again.
The only through line I can find between all three phones is my Apple ID. I’m convinced that there is some error or glitch with my ID that causes all my iPhones to freak out and not update properly. At this point I think my only recourse is to do a hard reset and start over with a new ID, which I don’t want to do because I have a bunch of purchases on here, but frankly it seems that’s going to be my only option.
You can contact apple directly through their website’s support area. Otherwise, you can try to message them directly, but apparently I can’t pay the number here.. so unfortunately you’ll have to do it that way. I am baking stuff up and they’re going to reinstall my os
I agree the other two work for me as well at times. However first sign of trouble now seems to be intermittent responsiveness or strange app behaviour. If I close apps at that point it does not freeze it would appear.
It is freezing on two different phones in my home.... 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. I think it is an Apple problem and hoping for 14.1 to address it. Meanwhile I am telling people to wait before updating.
Reset (up/down/hold power) only works for a limited amount of time. This is an iOS issue.
Have you done the hard reset?
Pro Max keeps freezing for seconds... Did the restart for times won't fix it... And don't want to do a factory reset.... Hope gets the iOS 14.1 soon.... Shame on you, Apple, Shame on you.... I need iPhone 12...
It happened to both of my phones but stopped freezing by the evening. I figured it was freezing because it was still doing work inside to update everything. We used to see that on the screen but not this time. I did mine in the evening and by the next evening it was perfect and continues to be so. Good luck.
I couldn’t know if it’s a universal fix. All I know it’s what the Apple tech had me to and I did it several times and it didn’t seem to work. What exacerbated things is that when I attached my phone by the power cord to my desktop iMac, the desktop wasn’t even acknowledging that the phone was attached. It seems that I tried so many different things, it’s difficult for me to pinpoint what finally worked. Somehow for example removing my phone from ‘find my phone’ seemed to clear it so that finally one of those volume up, volume down, power button processes actually worked and I could see my phone on my iMac for the first time in a while. Eventually it allowed me to do an update as opposed to forcing a restore.
Same for me: iPhone 8+, iPhone XS Max, iPad Air2 and iPad 11 Pro : Non-Apple apps hang, crash, browsers like opera touch take minutes to load a page. even recently apps still not working properly. It’s becoming a real drag. iOS 14 was released with too much hedges and clearly untested. This is an unacceptable because we need Thea devices for working not just playing
I am having the same issue with my iPhone 11 freezing up. It first started when I downloaded the widget apps. Once I deleted the apps, the freezing was less frequent, but it’s still happening. I’ve heard if you reset all of your settings it will fix the freezing problem that was caused by the widget apps. Has anyone tried that?
