watchOS 7 Battery Drain
I updated my series 4 Apple Watch to WatchOS 7 today. I use my watch all day and usually have about 30% battery left when I go to bed and start changing. Today my phone got to 10% by 2:30 pm! Why is this drawing so quickly?

I did the same. It was interesting to see that in the form they had not yet added WatchOS7 nor iOS 14 to the drop downs with the list of versions!! Perhaps they were betting on a smoother upgrade ;)
👍🏻 This has definitely helped. After 2 days now, i switched off most and left only the ones i felt were needed on. I also un linked the watch from the iphone, and re linked it back using the back up. Now the watch has ended up the very full day yesterday with 48% still available. Result ! 🤗👍🏻🕸
Exactly the same issue. I often cycle and run in a day and my watch (Series4) will just about make it to bedtime... maybe with 20% left. I've walked (and having a GPS issue on workouts since update too...) and that's it today and I'm on 11% at 4pm. Hope a fix comes soon as between the GPS not working properly and the watch not lasting the whole day, it's barely a functional watch anymore...
I have had the same issue, and I have heard that turning off the Handwashing Timer can help with this. I have tried disabling it now, so hopefully that works. Definitely give it a try and see if it works for you. The setting is located in the Watch application on the iPhone.
Here is how my day yesterday went (as an example). Woke up at 9, went out on a bike ride. By 15:00, my watch had died. Before the upgrade to WatchOS7, I had seen the 10% warning once. Now I am seeing it several times a day.
I assume that this is a bug. Please Apple can you issue a patch, because it is ridiculous to ask that any user, particularly active people, should charge their Apple Watch twice a day to continue with the full watch functionality.
Same here with the series 5. A full charge lasts less than 8 hours!! Last night I turned on flight mode and theater mode with 100% battery. 8 hours later I woke up with the watch completely death.
After updating to watchos 6.2.8 the battery life felt back from 2 days to 1+, but after watchos 7 the battery is draining like crazy for days now.
(By the way, the battery condition is 98%.)
Unpairing and install as new works for me. All new and „old“ features enabled again (hand washing, always on display, app refresh, etc..).
I‘m using an Apple watch 5 cellular! Now 18% battery drain after 4 hours „normal“ usage. This is what was before and will lead to approximately one day usage.
Immediately after the update one charge lasts for 8 hours maximum!!!
Series 5 with the same issue, I workout for about 30 minutes every morning, and it’s dead by 2pm now (always lasted til bedtime before the update.) And I tried sleep tracking last night, went from 100% at 11pm to dead when I woke up at 4:30am. Now I’m waiting for it the charge before work.
Same here on a Series 5. Been looking around and it rumour has it that it is caused by the handwashing feature. This rings true with me as I didn't;t turn that on on day one and only after I did, did I notice a problem.
I'l turn it off and report back here.
I have a series 5 Nike edition Apple Watch and since upgrading to watchOS 7, My battery life has been terrible. I can’t make it for a day on a single charge where are used to end with 40 odd percent before. Background app refresh is turned off, and washing is turned off. It’s very frustrating especially when I do a workout as well it drains 25% for 40 minute run never used to do before
The Mac unlock with apple can be fixed by removing all entries in keychain access tagged by “Apple Watch” and trying again. You may have to delete the plist file as well if the removal from Keychain alone doesn’t fix it.
SUCCESS! Outstanding advice, thank you. This resolved my issue of unlocking which is now functioning as before.
Very convoluted but it works.
So how many other users, less familiar with editing keychains etc, will have to delve into this degree?
Herzlichen Dank Gerhard!
I too have had problems since the software “upgrade”. My watch is barely usable - needs a charge at least twice a day! After spending a lot of money on this device I think Apple should get their act together pretty quick.
I just did an unpair and paired with a restore from backup. Went for a 30 minute walk and dropped 16%, so this didn't fix anything for me. I'm going to try an unpair and pair as a new watch and hope that fixes it and report back.
Same issue here - series 5. Before watchOS 7 I used to arrive at 10-11 pm with ~30% left and 2-3 training session per day. Now it gets to ~25% at 3 pm without training session. Nothing has changed in my daily routine. AW battery is always been disappointing, compared to the competitors. Now is also frustrating.
