Deleted all of the Health App data, however is still showing as using 20.44GB

i noticed the Health App on my iPhone was using 20.66GB of 64GB memory so deleted all of the health data, however is still showing as using 20.44GB data storage.

I have a feeling the ios14 update could be causing this. Has anyone else had similar issues with data storage following the update.

Any ideas?

Apple’s recommendation worked for me. I had 1.6TB health data, no longer recording route data from my Apple Watch walks and cycles. My first attempt was to unpair and then repair my watch was not successful. My second attempt was successful. 1. Unpair Apple Watch (2nd gen) 2. iCloud backup (I have 2 TB option but backup no where big as 1.6TB or it would have failed), 3. Reset my iPhone X (side effects - had to add credit cards back to wallet after restore), 4. Restored iPhone X from iCloud backup ( storage report was back to expected value - all good) 5. Repaired Apple Watch. 6. Went for a workout walk and noted that activity app on iPhone X recorded the entire walk route. Big success! I needed an evening to get this done.

I currently have 32PB of storage for the health app, which is outrageous compared to the capacity of my phone is 64gb. A PB is 1,000 terabytes, so I was little confused. I found that backing up your phone, wiping the data, and then loading from the most recent backup is the best option. After I post this, I'm going to try it.

My iPhone 8 was also at 1.61 TB and therefore it would let me transfer my apps and data to my new 12. I called Apple support at it was escalated to a senior engineer saying that he hasn’t heard of this before but obviously I’m not alone. He recommended that I start fresh with the 12 in case the data on the 8 was corrupted. So, I did. Now I am worried this data glitch is still occurring on the new 12. I’m already up to 1.45 GB of data in Apple Health and have only recorded one workout. I have cleared every imaginable source of data in Apple Health.

I have a series 4 Apple Watch that I also completely reset.

Anyone else see their data in Apple Health continue to go crazy even after the factory resets?

I am at almost 7 PB and I do not use the Health app at all. I delete every possible amount of data, have notifications off, but for someone reason it still tracks my steps, hearing, etc. I have gone to ultimate lengths to disable this, but it continues to collect data that makes no sense. I can only imagine the amount of data being used by those who actually utilize the app. I was able to update to 14.1 by deleting apps and redownloading, but would really like to backup my phone in hopes that it would solve the issue. Problem is I don’t have enough storage. Never had a problem until the update. I like it, but I wish we had the option to just delete Health at this point.

You have a several of choices.

1. Maybe 14.1 will fix the problem;

2. trying an encrypted backup using iTunes to your computer (password required - this option required to backup confidential data on iPhone) and then a reset and restore (see my previous post for link to procedure);

3. buy 200gb )or whatever you think you will need) iCloud space, doing an iCloud backup etc. You can downgrade your iCloud storage plan after you’ve finished with the restore. Remember iCloud backup does not include photos already on the icloud, app programs ( app data is backed up).

i may have been fortunate since I already had enough iCloud space to do the backup.

Hi dear

well I tried all these methods but it was impossible to get that huge red bar out of my storage graph, however ultimately I tried a different method. And gladly it worked.

so try this out!

Go to ur settings

Then click on Screen time

Then you’ll see the red icon ( content & Privacy restrictions)

then turn on content & privacy restrictions

then scroll down a little you’ll see

(Allowed apps) then click on it

Then you’ll get a list of apps, search for the health app icon then turn off health app!

it will uninstall your health app and clear all those excess data!

That’s all!

I saw someone else had mentioned this, but this has been the only thing that has worked for me- in Settings, go to Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps > Turn off Health

This completely takes the Health app off of your Home Screen and it doesn’t show up in storage. I no longer get the full storage warning so it definitely helped. I also turned off Wallet as I don’t use that either since those are two specific apps you can’t delete, so it’s a nice method of at least eliminating them to the best of your ability. Hope this helps!

Deleted all of the Health App data, however is still showing as using 20.44GB
