Face Id not working after iOS 14 update -iPhone X

My iPhone XS has been working fine with iOS 14 and 14.1, but I’m having the exact same issue on my 12.9-inch 2020 iPad Pro after updating to iPad OS 14.1. I tried resetting all settings and even erasing all settings and content, but I’m still stuck with “Move iPad a little higher/lower” no matter how I position my face. Face ID worked perfectly until I updated from 14.0.1 to 14.1.

the store staff or technician will blame it to hardware failure..why? Because they are not the programmer or developer of the software so they dont know or dont have any idea whats going on at the backend of the OS...technician’s job is if its not working then its hardware...they can’t even modify the software/OS to test of its hardware or not..they are more on the side of the hardware so if its not working after the update then their diagnosis is because of hardware failure...

XS max, the same problem. try to fix whit and hard reset, dfu…. nothing

it still don’t recognize and portray mode doesn't work too.

actually I’m on 14.3 beta 2 and still wait for a fix…. I hope for that

Totally agree. But from all the discussion threats on the apple foren it seems that:

1 Apple doesn't even acknowledge that there is a problem

2 people who bring their phone to the genius bar or do troubleshooting with apple over the phone are being told nothing is wrong with the software they need to go and buy a new phone

3 apparently it is not possible to go back to iOS13.7 which was the last version which was working fine. The moment I got autoupdated to 14.1 face ID stopped working, battery drains with very fast speed and the phone gets hot so hot I often can't even hold it on my ear.....

I wish someone would publish how to go back to 13.7 that would solve our problem for now.

go to do reset all setting

when it’s done you phone is open you will see Face ID not active on this phone don’t be panic

After initiating power off/Emergency SOS by pressing and holding either volume button and the side button simultaneously for 2 seconds.

you phone close now just wait 5 minute to open your phone.

than when you open the phone you will see Face ID working

Today I was able to get the latest upgrade to iOS14.3 and I could set up Face ID and it is working now. This were some sh...y weeks between iOS13.7 and 14.3 without Face ID. So far so good. Now lets see if the other 2 issues are solves as well: overheating (phone gets as hot as 40C) and battery drainage. One thing is for sure auto update will be disabled for a looooong time. Not doing that mistake again.

ALL of you, Read this. We can't help with a potential hardware issue. Your best choice is to go to an Apple Store and let them inspect it as soon as possible before your warranty runs out.

I'll acknowledge that it could be a software issue. But.

As stated, you'd be better off asking a technician within a Apple store. The community does not have a solution for this. We don't manipulate Apple software.

It is possible to roll back to an previous version with 1 specific circumstance. You'd need a backup from the previous version.

I had small amount of dirt ( sticky stuff) on screen. cleaned screen. all good

I have also experienced same. And before this my phone has totally locked. Anyway I restart it and then re-installed Face ID. Now working but not same like be4

Clean your screen. even the smallest smudge at the top stops u form setting up FaceTime

to use the “double-tap Face ID” make sure the Confirm with AssistiveTouch is off.

Same problem. Face if not working after iOS 14 update, and can’t reset Face ID. Seems frozen
