Face Id not working after iOS 14 update -iPhone X

Please do Dot Projector test for me to know what is wrong (Natural Ligh photo option) - did you replace LCD?

Please do auto brightness test and proximity test which all of this is responsible for FaceID

Best Buy ran a test that Apple couldn’t do over the phone since it requires a plug in. According to the test, my hardware is broken.

So now I have an appt with Apple where I’ll explain that everything worked prior to the upgrade. Then I upgrade and now my iPhone is has broken hardware.

This is nuts...

if you opened up iPhone - even if you have apple warranty - forget about it - 90% say good bye to FaceID

But if You did not opened it up and got warranty - then Apple will fix it for free.

Dis you do that Dot Projector test?

Go to Camera - Protrait - switch to Selfie and MUST be Natural Light with "filled yellow frame" and around your face MUST be blurry - if Natural Light is in NOT filled yellow frame and not blurry around You - means Dot Projector is NOT working...... which is required to FaceID to work.

Other way to be 100% Dot Projector is working is to look at front iPhone with other camera (MacBook FaceTime Cam is the best or other iPhone) you MUST see......... TWO red dots - smaller on left - bigger on right (while You try to set up FaceID) - if just smaller on left of the speaker is visible it means other BIGGER red dot is not visible = no Dot Projector = no FaceID.

Other sensors required to FaceID are automatic brightnes to be working - can be tested with flashlight and proximity sensor durning phone call

The final story:

• sometime prior to the iOS 14 update, I broke the sensors required for Faceid
• the Faceid continued to work despite the sensor being broken because it was already setup
• when iOS14 was installed, it deleted the existing FaceId
• when you try to setup FaceId, the sensor is broken and won’t work

so nothing I can do for now, then update to an 12.

FaceID UNABLE to work with NOT working Dot Projector!!!!

it is like you would tell me you had stored Fingerprint ID - button cracked and damaged DEAD -and..... still read fingerprint till iOS update.

The way it was explained to me; FaceId is a two step process. The first step takes the detailed FaceId photo and stores it. The second step takes a photo and compares it to the one on file to confirm it works.

The hardware that is broken is the one that takes the FaceId detailed photo. So we can’t take a new FaceId photo in the correct format.

Since I already had an image on file, I was able to continue using FaceId because all its doing is comparing my official two images for a match.

When I erased my FaceId image, a new one had to be created, but it couldn’t. So FaceId won’t work since the detailed photo can not be created.

When I asked how hard it was to break the hardware, the associate said it’s easy and it happens all the time. He said every time there is a major upgrade, they have a ton of FaceId issues since the hardware is broken. A quick google confirms this.

This is the way it was explained to me. I’m not spreading lies and if you don’t believe me, then head into a store and post your results.

Listen to me - I will explain you this other way.

Dot projector HAS TO SWITCH ON to unlock iPhone with FaceID

Apple would be DESTROYED if someone would find out iPhone with your photo unlocks it - the reason Dot Projector HAS TO WORK EVERY SINGLE TIME - and I even see Dot Projector working EVERYSINGLE TIME in FaceTime MacBook with my working iPhone Xr

1. There are FOUR stages.

The proximity sensor and ambient light sensor help the TrueDepth camera

system determine how much illumination will be needed for face

recognition;

The flood illuminator produces infrared (IR) light, part of the

electromagnetic spectrum that's invisible to the naked eye, to

illuminate your face;

The dot projector produces more than 30,000 dots of invisible IR light

to create a three-dimensional map (for area and depth) of your facial

landscape;

The infrared camera captures images of the dot pattern and the IR light

(a heat signature) that's been reflected back from your face.

And not comparing Photo but 3D pattern of our faces.

I tried both the person that said theirs worked when they did it landscaped that didn’t work for me. I tried covering where the red light is suppose to be also covering the green light now of that worked for me. I called Apple yesterday they said they aren’t sure that it’s a software issue because it didn’t happen to all of the ones that updated to iOS14 they had me restart my phone like it was new it still wouldn’t work I took a screen shot of the error and sent it to them. They put the info to tech and are suppose to let me know.

This is what I did with my other iPhone X - Apple said CRAZY £550 for repair (which is like $550) - so I've decided to purchase new second hand TOP iPhone XS Max - wich was massive UPGRADE

So instead go to Apple for fix - it is CHEAPER to do UPGRADE than do repair and You still can keep Your old iPhone.

Yes, we don’t have any option at the moment but I’ve tweeted about this issue and pointed out to this thread. All of you can start retweeting or atleast comment on it to get apple’s attention. I don’t know if this is going to help but doing it in a hope.

I would not be surprised if this is Apple’s way to force you to buy an upgrade. Specially for users that have bought their phone or are finished paying for it and out of Apple care. Very reminiscent of when they slowed down their phones to force an upgrade.

Nope, don’t let them fool you. Some people have got Face ID working in iOS 14.2 beta 4 and also randomly switching on and off. The only reason people are not going to the apple store is because they already know they’ll declare it as a h/w issue and unlike you we’re not covered so that boils down to 500-600$.

Apple is just trying to ignore this one so that they can trick people into buying new phone.

I think 2 of them who’re on iOS 14.2 beta 4 have reported that Face ID has started working but no one else has confirmed it. We’ll get to know more either when more of them start upgrading to beta 4 or after the official release. I don’t want to run beta on my phone as it could bring in a lot more bugs.(1 is enough)
