WOW - does iPod had non Apple display replaced?

Did You do 4 tests:

• Red Light” present when FaceID work (able to capture it using other iPhone camera with Video Setting)
• selfie photos are sharp?
• proximity sensor is working?
• automatic brightness working?

In my iPhone 11 - all those tests work and FaceID not working

It has to be a software issue. 40+ people couldn’t have updated to iOS 14 and at the same time damaged their phones in some way where the red light doesn’t come on. Software can mess up signals with the red light.

Yeah I agree. Apple support will ask you to send it in as it comes across as a hardware issue.

However I checked the light sensor (needed to view through another camera) and it works but usually it would flash where as it seems to be a solid light this time round.

Too coincidental that it happens to this many people close to the update. Hopefully Apple picks this issue up sooner rather than later

UPDATE - at the store they set a callback with an Apple Support member. I lucked out with the most knowledgeable, understanding and empathetic support person at Apple I've ever spoken to. He took his time studying the previous chats, calls and store visit notes. He had me perform a bunch of tests including a remote diagnosis where everything came back fine. At this he reviewed my recently expired AppleCare warranty and had me hold so he can speak to a supervisor. He came back on the phone and informed me they would perform a repair/swap as a one-time courtesy.

I solved the problem!!! Face ID relies on input from the face camera AND something called the TrueDepth camera. The true depth camera is a little green light that comes on when needed in the joker right portion of your screen — I think it maybe projects a grid pattern onto your face that aides in capturing the contours of your face. If that little green light (or maybe something near it) is blocked or obscured, faceID can’t gather the data about you face that it needs to work or even to be reset. Simply clean off the area of your screen near the little green light and FaceID will work again!!

Sorry that didn’t work for me. But my screen protector curves down in that area. I honestly think it’s a software issue. Everything was fine prior to the update, then it won’t work.

Yes, same for me after 14.0.1 but cleaning my screen protector in the area of the green light (which I have since read is a projector that throws 30,000 tiny dots onto your face which an infrared camera photographs and which somehow provides very detailed contour information about your face) and FaceID now works. The infrared camera aperture is also at the top of the screen but left of center. Try cleaning in that area as well and see if that brings back FaceID? Is you screen protector maybe damaged up near the top and distorting the depth camera functionality?

I am certain as well that the 14.0.1 update altered in some way the operation of the 3D imaging that makes FaceID work.

Same here. I called to apple support and they said is not “any problem” with the iOS updated. If I want I can pay then to send it to check someone try it fix it. Please call then to created many many reports and the then the technical fix it this BIG issue

which iPhone Modell do you have?

I already reported this case four days ago!

He asked me to do the following:

1. Reset all settings —-if this doesn’t help
2. Do a backup.
3. Reset it to factory settings.

Configure it as new.

I have not done it yet, as I have no possibility to use iTunes at the Moment.

Anyone here already tried to reset it to factory setting???

Hey hi, how are u? Well, I try it all this:

1. Reset all setting
2. Clean all sensor panel.
3. Turn off the phone for 2 - 3 min
4. Hard reset
5. Take a photo used the portrait option.
6. Check if the brightness work correctly with flashlight, and check if they up and down the intensity correctly. 
7. Check the doc protector work correctly with iMessage emoji.
8. Check ambient light sensor work correctly, put camera in front the iPhone.
9. Factory reset.

And any of this steps doesn’t work. That’s why I said please call apple support to create many cases to technical check something wrong with the update. 

Can ANYONE do Dot Projector test before say FaceID stopped working and CONFIRM Dot Projector is working?

To test it:

Go to Camera - Protrait - switch to Selfie and MUST be Natural Light with "filled yellow frame" and around your face MUST be blurry - if Natural Light is in NOT filled yellow frame and not blurry around You - means Dot Projector is NOT working...... which is required to FaceID to work.

Other way to be 100% Dot Projector is working is to look at front iPhone with other camera (MacBook FaceTime Cam is the best or other iPhone) you MUST see......... TWO red dots - smaller on left - bigger on right (while You try to set up FaceID) - if just smaller on left of the speaker is visible it means other BIGGER red dot is not visible = no Dot Projector = no FaceID

This is what I am trying to figure out - I want to know if EVERYONE here has Dot Projector "switched off" - to know if HARDWARE Dot Projector works or not.

Because if EVERYONE (those 600 people here) has Dot Projector off - it gives hope that Apple Switched it off somehow in iOS 14.

Because if MANY people of those 600 people here have WORKING Dot Projector BUT........ NOT working FaceID - people like me and You got NO hope with fixing FaceID :(

So it looks like with You there is hope!

As I do not have that yellow filled up "Natural Light" and even unable to take a photo = Dot Projector not working.

Your probably works - and to be 100% sure use other camera (even from MacBook FaceTime) to see if you have 2 red dots near "Call Speaker" (bigger and smaller) while using Natural Light camera.

.......and I've lost my hope with my iPhone 11 :/

In Your case IF it is not iOS problem - and you said you had LCD replaced - You still need to check if Your proximity sensor (to be checked durning phone call) work and auto brightness (to be checked with flashlight)

Quick update. I called Apple and they confirmed that my hardware was working and concluded it was my software.

I backed up everything, then reset everything back to factory settings.

Then, waited a long time, and it still doesn’t work.
