I have a note on my phone that is very full, it had a lot of information. Let’s say you can scroll for a good 10 seconds from one end to the other. On iOS 13 there were 0 issues. On iOS 14 when I type, it is noticeably slower and laggier. When I type the keyboard letters pop up a second later and the letters on the notes show up a second later too. How do I fix this issue without downgrading?
Once I updated to iOS 14, all of my Notes with a lot of bulleted lists in them were insanely laggy. At first, I thought it was because of how much text was in there, but other big notes without a lot of lists were fine, and new notes with about 20 started to show issues. My keyboard will intermittently slow down so much that it types by itself for a good 10-15 seconds. It's insane.

Same problem on Ipad air 2, ios 14 broke the notes app, please fix it Apple! Oh, already did restart, erased all settings, erased the app and re-installed it, and I have 72 gigs of free space on the ipad so it’s definitely a bug, not experiencing the lag on my iphone 11 pro max though, could it be planned obsolescence? Me too! This is hugely frustrating. If any note is more than a few paragraphs long the app slows down to a crawl...I’m typing and words are lagging behind to the point that the notes app is nonfunctional. I’m using an iPhone X, I have tons of storage space and every other app runs smoothly. Apple, you need to fix this.
Augh same here. It’s a nightmare. I use the Notes app for everything. ALL of my notes are ‘laggy’ (on both of my iPads, on my iPhone and even on my Mac) and I have over 700 of them so there’s no ‘cutting and pasting’ them to fix it. So annoying. They need to fix this!! (And I have plenty of space on all of my devices so that is not it). This is the worst!!
I’ve got many Notes files on my iPhone 6s. I’ve got one commonly used note that has over 6,000 characters. Editing this note since upgrading to iOS 14 has been a nightmare, just like the others here.
I copied all of the contents of that one note (nothing but characters/words) pasted it into a new note, then deleted the old one. Editing the new note has the same speed and responsiveness you’d expect.
This workaround works for me. Apple will still have to eliminate the bug. Good luck!
Yea, here’s the problem though: it’s not just old notes, it’s brand new notes that I start, they also drag, and lag and lag and lag. Really annoying. Is there another app someone can recommend (I feel like Microsoft had something similar to Notes??) So bummed that notes is now useless!
My Notes app, upon which I depend, as a novelist, for posting hundreds of thoughts on my books, stopped working INSTANTLY upon downloading the iOS 14 update. The lag makes the app totally useless. This just reinforces my original opinion that all updates from apple thoroughly wreck a perfectly good system which will never work again. Like everything apple does, it's planned obsolescence.
I recently bought an Pro iPad 12.9 for professional work...
The sudden lag after the update turned this expensive professional writing/notetaking machine into junk overnight.
This must be what people in third world countries feel like everyday... nothing working right and no one taking any responsibility.
My Notes App stopped functioning immediately and entirely after downloading the IOS 14 update. The lag in typing makes the app totally unusable. As a novelist, I use this app extensively, to post my thoughts and ideas for the books-in-progress that I am working on. I post hundreds of notes for any given project. It is my go-to aid for middle-of-the-night thoughts and I use it every day. I am irritated beyond words that this perfectly functioning app was turned to junk immediately upon downloading the IOS 14, which they tell you you can't live without. This just reinforces my opinion that the entire business plan of Apple Inc is planned obsolescence and how they can possibly screw up our phones to the extent that we are forced to replace the thousand-dollar appliance that we just bought a year ago, because Apple itself has screwed it up so badly that it will no longer function for the purpose it's needed.
I have found that you simply have to give up on the Note you are working on that lags so horrendously that it is useless, and start another, same title, Part Two. It appears that a "Note" will only tolerate so many characters, but frankly, I have no idea. I'm a writer, not a geek. They say that Notes was never intended to be for anything but short reminders. It would be half decent of Apple to tell us about these apps and how to manage them, but then, Apple only cares about getting your dollars, not helping you figure out how to work these **** things. They stay up nights screwing up perfectly well functioning apps for no reason other than that they can.
I have this problem too on an iPad Pro 2017. I use Notes for work a lot - over 2000 notes. Some with quite a lot of text. I had no problems with performance before the iPadOS 14 upgrade. Now it slows to a crawl when typing, particularly if typing text into the middle of a 2-3 page (equivalent) note.
If I kill the notes app and restart it speeds up but then within a minute or two it slows down again. I don’t know if it is indexing or what but the performance is too slow. My hacky workaround is to split the screen with Pages, type the text into pages and then copy back to Notes at the end.
Apple please fix? Happy to contribute a video or support log if it helps.
i did this, and it’s still just as laggy. the weird thing is, i’m only experiencing this issue with ONE of my notes, and the rest are fine. i have plenty of storage, have the new update, and the note is new and not even that long. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
APPLE, PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WORKING ON IT
I assumed the issue was that I owned an older phone…it was a major problem when I upgraded to iOS 14 on my iPhone X. But I bought the iPhone 12 Pro and it’s EVEN WORSE. On a BRAND NEW PHONE with supposedly the fastest mobile chip in the world. This is unacceptable!!!! I rely on the notes app for my work. Apple, what are you going to do about this???????
Lately I’ve been experiencing all types of lag, upgraded to IOS 14.1 on iphone 11 pro max and it’s not getting any better, this is getting out of hand Apple, these bugs need to be acknowledged and squashed immediately !
