Because it's GM's problem to fix (along with other automakers.)

Apple obviously knows how CarPlay is implemented and their products comply with the protocols; GM's obviously does not.

Were this not the case all CarPlay systems would have this issue, and they do not.

I don’t have CarPlay - my Ford Mondeo is a 2012.

But I do have the crackling - like a record player so that would have been ok but the sound itself is shallow or lacking fullness.

My pixel 2 that I replaced with the 12pro had a great sound in the car.

So I cough up £1200 and end up with sh*t sound.

You can believe that, in which case it won't be fixed.

Somehow this error doesn't manifest on other vendors' products, and gets fixed by changes they make.

All you've told me is GM got it wrong, too.

How funny that Apple carefully didn't break 2011 Toyotas, among others.

Didn't worked for me either. Updated to iOS 14.5 and it keeps doing it. Very annoying. Went to Kia for a firmware update and they say it's updated to the latest. They say is an Apple problem.....Please somebody help!

My last comment on this topic was several weeks ago, when I said that I had to show my VW dealer the firmware upgrade they did not know about and they had to request help from VWNA IT specialist. Never heard back of course. But weirdly, the problem, which for me was only with phone calls, now seems to have gone away as mysteriously as it appeared.

I have the same problem only with calls. I can't find any firmware update for KIA on the internet, but they say there's no update, they insist that it's an Apple problem, but the noice is also on bluetooth, not only when connected to CarPlay, that's why I tell them the problem is from KIA, they don't understand. Can anyone recommend something that can make this crackling noice during calls go away. Thanks.

Update to14.5 didn’t solve it. Please be honest Apple - are you looking into it or do you not acknowledge this is your fault but the fault of different car stereos ? I have two cars with different radios with Apple CarPlay . The same different phones SE and 12 pro works perfectly in one car but crackles sound in the other.

1. this started for me the day I upgraded to IOS 14.
2. ive updated my car radio already just recently
3. every time iOS updates the static get worse
4. android has no problem on my car

so please tell me it’s my car again when all and every sign points to the phones software.

But that doesn't mean it's Apple's issue to solve.

Time to pull out this example again:

Say you have a calculator that when you add 2 + 3, you get the answer of 5, but when you add 3 + 2, you get the answer of 6.

If the software previously only added 2 + 3, but now adds 3 + 2 and gets the wrong answer, it's not Apple's responsibility to make sure they always only add 2 + 3.

When systems are designed, protocols always have fields that will be used in the future and developers are told to ignore those fields, or perhaps to respect them but not use them for any purpose.

Very often, developers don't and make assumptions that bits unused now will remain unused in the future, and this breaks things when a future update starts using those formerly unused bits and the third party software was using them to denote something else.

So, while this obviously could be an Apple issue, the fact that it used to work and no longer does does not mean Apple got anything wrong.

Certainly the iOS division of Apple is comprised of hundreds if not thousands of employees, many of whom have CarPlay in their personal vehicles; do you honestly think if it were as broken as you believe it to be, it would go unnoticed?

Instead there are multiple other factors involved, from interference, cellular signal strength and so on that come into play.

Isn’t that up to the other apps to make that option available? I only use Apple Music really so wouldn’t know if Spotify, Amazon, etc. have that setting in the General settings of the phone or within the app itself.

I had all the mentioned issues as well and until 14.6 no cure... with the help of the music settings like mentioned above the issue was gone - BUT 14.7 has reintroduced the same issue again... the setting was not altered by the upgrade - did anyone experience the same? Really not a good job what Apple has done with 14.x and Carplay....

I cannot see a difference with 14.7. and still have this issue from 14.0 onwards, with and without the above music settings and independent if LTE or WiFi as well as independent if music is streamed or on my iPhone. But I fully underline the statement of @oph001: Really not a good job what Apple has done with 14.x and Carplay....

According to this posts most frequented commenter this, the dog-cow guy, what your saying can’t be true since he claims Apple never broke CarPlay in the first place. I will try to throw the beta on and test it out for ya. Would be nice if the solution is right around the corner though!

thanks!! just booked in for service and asked them to look at it, do you have any idea what software version you were on before the update? no worries if not. I looked on the Skoda update website and it says there's no update for my car but hoping the garage can sort it anyway
