iOS 14: Wrong Caller ID on Incoming Call

Hi all, upon updating to iOS 14, the incoming call occasionally shows the wrong contact name.

For example, if Mr. A is calling via direct line, it will show Mr. B calling which is my last call via WhatsApp or LINE.

Anyone would be advise whether is this a bug issue? settings? or etc?

Thank You.

iOS 14 has a major bug Every time you would get a call, the Caller ID on the screen (before you answer the call) shows the WRONG caller name. However, on the recent calls list, you can see the real name of the caller.

The wrong called caller ID appears updating to iOS 14. It usually happens if you are using multiple phone calling apps such as Whatsapp, Line, Skype, etc.

Restart your phone

If you have a phone With Face ID:

  • Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears.
  • Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.
  • To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

If you have an iPhone with a home button

  • Press and hold the side button until the power off slider appears.
  • Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.
  • To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Update to iOS 14.0.1

Apple launched iOS 14.0.1 few days after the launch of iOS 14. Follow the below steps to update your iPhone to the latest version.

  1. Plug your device into power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
  2. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  3. Tap Download and Install.

Reset your network settings

If nothing works, please reset your network settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on General
  • Click on Reset
  • Select Reset Network Settings.

Please let me know in comments if either of the solution worked for you.

Exactly, same here. I called apple and nothing was solved. They are not aware of the bug, as they told me to call my network operator as they think it’s the cause of the problem. But it’s not. The problem is not the network, the problem is the phone/apps.

The only solution I found by myself: kill the app responsible (e.g. Skype/whatsapp) after using it.

14.1 didn’t solve because they are not aware of the bug. Maybe also you guys try to call them or chat with the support? Then the issue gets more importance.

So I have had a detailed an Hour session with Apple Support and was suggested following:

contact carrier as this seems like a carrier issue: I refused to accept this as a solution.

or

delete whatsapp/line and reinstall it. Basically the App whose caller ID is becoming sticky.

Disclaimer: exercise this at your own discretion. Take backup of your chats/Media first.

I faced the same issue as well and it turns out that the call waiting option was turned on. I contacted apple customer support and they advised me to turn that off. And I restarted my device and checked for the issue and it appears to be resolved. I think this should solve the issue. Maybe you need to contact apple if it doesn’t work.

Actually it didn't happen to me anymore since 14.1... but it could also be a coincidence. I only changed 1 thing since then..

(no idea what the setting is in english) in german it would be

Settings->phone->incoming call->from banner i switched to full screen.

But again it could be a coincidence that it just didnt happen for another reason and maybe will reappear again..

its worth a try though.

I discovered something new . The phone rang and it showed the wrong caller (it showed the caller id of the previous call) on the iphone .At t bhe same time it rang on the ipad but the ipad showed the right caller id. Only closing the whatsapp app seems to help with the problem. I do hope that the next update will solve this very big issue

Did you update to 14.2?
